Post by: Ruby10 on January 23, 2020, 09:11:02 AM
Had a mirena coil removed couple of days ago only had it for 3 months and was having problems so got it removed . I have had a big bleeding flood out over night 😢
How long does this bleeding last for after it has been removed ?

Hi Ruby10,

I had a Mirena removed after 12 months and bled for a few days, but I had been spotting continuously with the Mirena. I think it is quite normal, if you're feeling unwell or it persists see your doc, for reassurance.

Hope you feel better soon.

How long is a piece of string?

It will depend on a lot of things like how far into peri-menopause you are, the dose of HRT you are on if any, and whether there are any other factors which could cause bleeding eg fibroids or polyps. The fact that you had a heavy bleeding shortly after removal of the Mirena implies that the womb lining had built up somewhat even with the coil in place, and withdrawal of the progesterone is now causing it to shed.

How long had the Mirena been in place and are you taking any other HRT? I do hope the bleeding eases but, I agree, as always go to your doc if you are worried.
