Morning ladies. Sorry, but I just wanted to have a moan and this is the only place I know I could go to really let off steam !!
So I went to see a private meno specialist a couple of months ago and she suggested I try Oestrogel, Utrogestan and Testogel. She wrote to my GP for them to prescribe for me. I thought it would just be a case of them issuing a prescription on her recommendations but, oh no, I then had a right old fandango because they wanted me to make an appointment to see GP before they would prescribe. Anyway, finally got to see someone and they let me have a month's supply. Forward on nearly a month and as I seem to be doing ok on this regime, I put in a written request this week for another prescription. I received a phone call from the surgery this morning saying that GP wants me to go in for another review before I can have anymore medication. Grrrr....I told receptionist that I'm getting low on the gel and she said she would call me back. I then received a call from a nurse saying the doctor can see me NEXT FRIDAY. When I told her I was getting low, she said “well it won't matter if I don't take it for a few days. WHAT !!! It's taken me over 2 years to find something that might be working for me and she doesn't realise how ill I've felt in this time. How dare she 😡😡😡
Needless to say I didn't get anywhere and I'm having to wait until next Friday to see a doctor.
So sorry for this long rant but needed to get it off my chest.

I'd be furious too. The nurse has presumably been told what to say but would she say that for any other medication? If this is the same one you saw before I would see a different gp. If they still refuse ask for a second opinion or change practice. Or make your next appointment before you leave the surgery. Not sure if complaining will do any good but I'd do so anyway. You need 3 months continues use for the full effect and you'll be starting at day 1 again. Perhaps they've taken the hump because you went privately.

Ring the surgery again and say you need to see the Dr urgently, that is what my son does if he really can't wait a week or even 2, our surgery will put you in the same day or day after if you say it's urgent
Our receptionists never used to ask why, but they do now,i just say it's personal

How annoying!
You might be able to phone the private meno for a prescription and get it through the online independent pharmacy. It shouldn't cost too much more until you get it sorted.

I would go sit in the Waiting Room with a book and wait to see the Doctor; or ask for a phone call today which will save that appt.. No reason to see a GP, no wonder the NHS is in the state it is! A week is far too long to wait anyway ...........

Thank you for all your supportive comments ladies. I will be on the case with this again tomorrow to try to sort the situation out. It's so tiring having to fight all the time for what we need and deserve 😞

Can you ask for a telephone appointment with the gp? Not sure if all places offer these.
I always see the same gp and when I need to see her quickly I ask for a phone consultation which I can get much quicker. If they just need to chat to make sure you are happy on the meds.... It is pointless having to go in.
And make sure u ask them to put it on repeat for next time!!!

Thanks CrispyChick. I did suggest a telephone appointment but they have insisted I go in. You'd think they would be glad to have one less person to see wouldn't you and I've certainly seen enough of my doctors surgery to last me a life time !! I will definitely be asking for it to be put on repeat. To make matters worse, 3 of our local surgeries have merged into one new medical centre and when I popped my request in it was chaotic. There's no hope is there 😏
