Title: Dr insists Oestrogen patch/gel with separate prog is “too complicated “
Post by: Zara69 on November 25, 2019, 06:01:21 PM
I've been pretty good on Evorel sequi patches for a couple of years...I have/had migraines so want transdermal...due to interruption in supply I couldn't fill my prescription (I know I could get online but tried to avoid the faff) so asked by email if I could try gel/patch plus sep prog.  Told no need to be seen GP will call you - great! Told “No too complicated... you have a womb so combined products only... so he gave me Femoston 1/10 which I said I thought was low dose compared to the patches .. he said not necessarily ..I said what about my migraines ? He dismissed saying hrt tablets aren't contraindicated (I know that but transdermal is better also re clots etc) still wouldn't budge! I don't actually need to use these tabs as I know I can get patches online plus I have got gel and utrogestan I bought in Spain (yes I know not recommended) but really I feel if I told him I would just buy what I needed he would have said “fine”...so disinterested and he is considered the main GP at my surgery...I almost feel like going private just to get the consultant to write to him and make him prescribe what he doesn't want to! (Childish I know) Honestly isn't it a load of crap?  I do have a question though...if I ever had to use the Femoston 1/10 could I top it up with a pump of gel? I've had an ablation so don't bleed anyway x I did ask if a recommendation email from dr currie would make any difference? He said “why would i need to read that?!” 🙄

Maybe speak to a local Pharmacist they have private rooms these days ............ that will be less rushed and you can make notes.

Hi, your GP may find it harder to ignore a menopause specialist than to ignore you as a patient. My GP is pretty good at advising on the menopause and HRT but I still have yearly appointments with a private menopause specialist who has more time and a bit more experience than my GP.

Ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic. With any luck they'll prescribe what you want without having to pay.
