Hi I'm new. I think I am in the early stages of the menopause.
I wondered if anyone has noticed a change in their personality?
I have never been an angry person but after feeling slighted at a family event I became really upset. The next day I felt angry and when my sister sent me a text to see if I was okay I sent her an angry text back which upset her and I think also shocked her. I have apologised several times in the same phone call but she is hurt.
We have recently had a bereavement as well and when I was upset it was the first time I had cried about that.
This is completely out of character for me I am the quiet calm one who doesn't over - reacted.
Anyway I just wondered if I am the only person who has managed to upset someone when they have been hormonal. Thanks

Hi Ashley :foryou:, you are absolutely not the only one, scenarios as you've described have been my life since peri-menopause hit. (about age 49 for me) Complete personality change in the 2nd half of cycle for me. Think PMT ramped up highest! No wonder witches were always depicted as (slightly sometimes) older ladies. Poor things were most likely just suffering from hormonal symptoms!!! :(
I've been better since I've been on HRT but not 100% better. There are lots of symptoms of peri menopause, if you google them you'd be surprised how many!
If you think this could be peri then please contact your sister and tell her it is your hormones to blame, hopefully she will understand. xx

Thank you for your reply. It's good to know it's not just me!! I am 50 so thinking it might be Peri.
My sister is really hurt I was so sad and angry at the time I just lashed out. I'm not sure if it makes it worse that this is the first time I have ever been mean to her. I might not be able to go on HRT because my mum had breast cancer.
I do feel for this ladies who were branded witches all this years ago!!
Anyway thanks you have made me feel better x

Hi go easy on yourself!
:welcomemm: you've been bereaved. I take months sometimes to grieve. It will be something unrelated that will trigger tears.
HORMONES >:( how were you during your menstruating years, irritable B4 a bleed for example? Make sure that you eat little and often, gentle exercise ........
How close are you to your sister, could you meet for a coffee and talk it over? The written word is static ........ is she bereaved too?
Regardless of your Mum's diagnosis: which may not be oestrogen related anyway. Maybe make a list of which symptoms you feel could be eased and discuss with your GP/Practice Nurse?

I came off Facebook last year when I started going through peri (47) as I was so worried I would say something I would regret and upset someone as my moods are all over the place, yet I've always been the quiet, peace keeper.
So I agree with Clovie it's your hormones having a funny as I put it when I have a wobble, and welcome to the forum Ashley x

Thank you CLKD actually I have never had bad PMT I have been really lucky in that respect.
Yes it is our auntie who has passed away she looked after us for a few years as our mum died when we were really young. My sister and I are close enough for it to matter if we fall out as it would effect other family including her kids who I am close to.
I didn't know you could still go on HRT if your mum had breast cancer, she died if it when she was in her early 40's. Thanks x

Thanks Countrygirl for the welcome. I hope you feel better soon x

If you can get hold of your Mum's medical history it will state if the cancer was oestrogen dominant. Quality of Life is important more than anything. I had breast disease: the changes were in the lump that was removed and the Oncologist said to me 'no HRT for you'. Well so far I"ve not need it but had push come to shove I would have been OK about using it - something is going to kill us and who is to say any cancer would return anyway!
Get that meeting fixed with your sibling.

Hi
Not sure if I could still get her records she died 46 yrs ago.
I'm sorry you have had breast cancer I hope you continue to be able to control your symptoms x
-
That was in the 1990s. I think if there was a connection between your Mum's breast disease and any problems with your breasts you would have had symptoms. With or without HRT.
Some breast disease can apparently be 'triggered' by HRT.
Anger can be eased by eating regularly: that is every 3 hours, 24/7 ;)

Thank you Birdy x

Thanks Birdy it is good to know it's not just me!!
Hope you are coping a lot better now x

How did you cope with being angry?

It isn't just you, I was the same. If I was my OH I'd have run for the hills. Went from happy and active to a snarling couch potato. Transdermal hrt is safer than oral. It might be worth ask for a referral to a meno clinic.

^^ glad to know I'm not alone. My boss isn't a buffalo though, he's quite nice, it's all the others ...
