Hi again, I've been advised to take Vagifem Daily. I tried it every other day but it wasn't keeping the VA at bay.
I'm just concerned that this isn't a recommended dose and am worried it might lead to a build up of lining in my womb. Is there anyone else out there applying Vagifem daily? X
-
You take for 2 weeks to start with and after that about twice a week I think unless you need it more often
-
My meno specialist said i was quite safe to use daily, she said it was equivalent to two oral systemic HRT tablets a year, fortunately she wrote that in a letter to my GP practice so if i get a GP who disagrees i point that out.
Vagifem was a higher dose several years ago so 5X a week is the same dose as then, i have used it daily for over 3 years now.
-
I emailed Mr Hamoda head of the BMS about this as there was a tweet on twitter by a medic on the 27th March with slides from a conference saying 2Xs a week wasn't enough to keep VA at bay.
The slide said every other night up to 5 Xs a week was fine indefinitely no progesterone needed.
So I emailed him and he said yes that was correct ( the presentation was at Kings London by Professor Linda Cardozo) 5 was the original dose and only for commercial reasons it was rescued down.
Regards 7xs a week many ladies need this amount and two extra from the 5 week works out at ONE extra HRT pill a year, as it's been suggested by a medic I would do as suggested & many would say your very lucky .

I use daily at my Dr.s direction. I have severe VA so she is adamant I use it daily to try and keep symptoms under control. I still have discomfort but a great deal better than it was.

Hi, I posted a podcast by Dr Newson and Liz Earle where they were chatting about testosterone. Louise said there was a pending VA pessary including testosterone DHEA I think which is aimed at ladies who are not getting relief from the regular Vagifem.

Wow, thanks that's interesting..

That has put my mind at rest Tinkerbell, have you had any side effects from.it?
-
Bobidy that is very interesting. Vagifem is not really doing all that much for me tho much better in the last week or so. I would love to find another newer product that actually works.
-
No side effects at all, only the benefits from it!

Occasionally 1 can use two doses at the same time or a few hours apart in the same day. This is such a small dose: original at 25 B4 some bright spark >:( decided that ladies could 'do' with 10 :cuss: Oh I would love to meet that person :poke2:

Do you use it daily too?

I have 'ovestin' - several times a week. Sometimes I require two doses during a day ::) also take pain relief when symptoms flare.

Do you use Vagifem and Ovestin at the same time?

The new product is called Intrarosa and is now available on nhs. I've been using it for about a week and love it. Vagifem caused irritation for me.

An nhs gynae prescribed me vagifem daily x

-
Tracey E - I'm on low dose hrt and use the intrarosa alt days. Working well so far.

I tried to get Inrarosa on my last doctors app's and she told me it wasn't available yet. I'll try again next week.
Better than Vagifem?

Keep us posted with how it goes. Vagifem caused problems for me so I now use estriol, but it would be great if there was an alternative.
-
Personally, I think it's better than Vagifem, I always had residual irritation only in the perineum area which Vagifem and ovestin didn't shift and Intrarosa has eased after only a week of use.

What format does it come in Kilted?
-
Ive read its fat based, coconut and palm oil i think, that rules me out trying it, coconut oil irritated when i tried it before externally as a moisturisor but most people find it soothing.
-
Hi ladies, I'm on Vagifem daily can I use Ovestin on the outside bits if so how often? x
-
I use Vagifem 5 times week and Ovestin every night on the outside bits.

Yes, absolutely. As to how often, I should think daily if you need it. I've been using Estriol Cream daily on the outside, although it is weaker than Ovestin.

Tracey E - they're a slim bullet shaped pessary and I 8 think it's just coconut oil in addition to the active hormones. Feels good, no irritation.

So they Estrogen in them as well?
-
Well yes, but it's oestrogen that's broken down by metabolising DHEA. DHEA is the parent hormone and it's metabolised in the body into oestrogen and testosterone, but only locally, in the vagina in this case. It's probably worth googling Intrarosa for the company info as I may well be talking nonsense!
-
As far as I'm aware it doesn't contain any oestrogen it's a non hormonal treatment,

Hi there - there was a recent thread on Intrarosa here: https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,45659.msg735724.html#msg735724
I found a very detailed study and had a quick peruse and put down a few of the points that I noted so if anyone wants to read a bit more do go to that thread and have a look.
The main thing that stood out for me was that the studies showed that Intrarosa needed to be used DAILY in order to achieve the SAME results (in terms of VA, maturation of tissues etc) as 10 mcg Vagifem used twice weekly, according to the trials - so it may well not be powerful enough as a product on its own especially for those who need to use Vagifem daily - but obviously worth a try. it may also prove especially benenficial for those already on systmeic HRT but need extra local oestrogen. Also the relative lack of fillers is an obvious advantage and the coconut fat itself may be soothing!

It's working very well for me Tracey E. If you have problems with any of the alternative va treatments, Intrarosa is worth a try.
-
Well I'll ask next week about it Kilted, I'm on Vagifem daily at the moment and Ovestin externally. So not sure now how it will compare but if I manage to get some (which will be no mean feet) I'll let you know how I fare. Thanks Hurdity for the heads up. X
