I've just had a text from GP advising of National shortages of HRT and suggesting I make an appointment to discuss possible alternatives. Was also advised to make sure to make the appointment well before my prescription ran out.
Thanks to this forum I had already put in my prescription in advance and was able to get 6 months, albeit by travelling a bit.
At least the GP's are reacting, interesting to know what they would suggest though.

That's amazing that you got 6 months worth - I only got 1!!!
Also really great that your GP contacted you - I've had no such contact from my practice!
Nice to have some good news!

I couldn't get my prescription filled a month ago and chemist said it was because the makers had scrapped the last batch due to a tiny defect with it. I asked him about a shortage and he said no shortage, HRT suppliers have to be ultra cautious and if there even was a tiny misshapen pill, the whole batch of 10,000 pills would be scrapped.
At the time I thought that was an acceptable reason but I don't think so anymore.
