Title: Using ovestin

Can I ask if anyone has used ovestin daily on a long term basis?

I've tried alternate nights for a while and all that happens is it gets progressively worse over a few weeks until I go back to a reload when it settles down again. When I go back to alternate nights the same thing happens.

I've been told by a number of medics not to use it more than three times a week but it's not enough. Even using the yes products in between doesn't really help. They help when I've done the reload but then gradually stop.

Any suggestions?

I use Vagifem every day, when i was on Ovestin i used it five times a week. It is safe to use topical estrogen daily, my meno specialist told my GP that is was equivalent to just two oral HRT tablets a year when used daily.

Also safe to use for the rest of your life, i have used topical estrogen for five years now and have no intention of giving it up.

I use the Estring plus Vagifem every other day. Have been told at the meno clinic that I could use Vagifem every day if I want, and that is on top of the Estring. Have they given a reason for the 3 times a week limitation? Sometimes they are concerned about endometrial involvement, although in reality there is no danger of that.

Ive used Vagifem daily in the past. It stopped working so now I'm going to have HRT AND Vagifem
to see if that helps my bladder burning symptoms

Could you try the Estring? No danger of fillers irritating with that.

Thanks for your replies. The response I got was that it can cause cancer so I've been wary of overusing. But I end up with other problems if I don't such as vaginitis and have just had a bout of cystitis symptoms. I know it wasn't cystitis because I've had this problem before. Now I'm using the cream daily, it's clearing up. Things always clear up once I use daily.

I think I'll keep going and see about the string at my next appointment. Maybe once it's settled I'll cut down to five times a week and see how that goes.

Cancer indeed! I despair of these know-nothing medics!  >:( I  expect Vagifem and oestrogen creams have been around since before they started medical school.

Keep going, and I hope you manage to keep things under control.
