Sorry to ask this question again!! Has anyone used more than one patch at a time, or changed it more frequently than twice a week? If so - did it help with VA? I just wondered if I could increase the dose and get any benefits. Thanks x
-
Has your Dr not suggested Vagifem pessaries, or some topical cream etc for VA ,i think you need something like that rather than using an extra patch which i doubt you make much difference
-
Thanks Jaycee,
Is there any cream you recommend which I could get otc. I can't face going back to GP!
Thank you x
-
Forgot to say, I have been trying vagisil but not working x
-
I am sorry i don't know of any cream that would work properly with VA as you need something to insert inside, but as i have had no need to look for any over the conter cream i have no idea, you can buy vagifem now over the counter i believe, but it will probably be expensive
You could try googling it or look at Boots website ,
Sorry can't be more help
I am sure someone with more knowledge about it will be along soon
-
Yes is good but not enough for VA is it Birdy? she still needs some internal lubrication that is actual oestrogen
-
Sorry about this ladies! I am also getting an itchy discharge - is this normal???
-
Yes that can be all part of it, but you can get something from the chemist for that, maybe it's thrush, but you really need to go back to your Dr, and explain how things are
-
Ok thanks, I will try and get something x

I am using Evorel Conti with Vagifem but started the Vagifem first (well before the Evorel). I have never used more than 2 patches a week but it has reduced my frequency of Vagifem to about 3 a week instead of 5-7. It took about 3 weeks to make that difference.
-
Thank you for that Katejo, I have just rang the surgery and asked if they will leave me some vagifem.
Hopefully the duty doctor will ok it - will keep you posted!!
Did you use the vagifem every day for the first 2 weeks? Do you use them at night or morning?
What benefits have you found from the evorel conti?
Sorry to be so nosy!!!
Thanks again x
-
Hi Katejo, just wondered if had any info regarding my last post!
Thanks in advance X
-
Morning ladies, just had a phone call from surgery saying that as I am on patches - I cannot have the Vagifem as well!!! How come many of you can use both? So fed up!!!!!!
-
That is just ridiculous,i didn't even know vagifem existed until i was prescrbed them for VA
I would change your Dr or go to another in your practice, surely they wont all have that attitude,it's just wrong
-
Thanks jaycee, do you have patches & vagifem? The doctor who prescribed me the patches is on holiday so the duty doctor (senior partner at practice!) has said you can't use both.
Ready to rip my vagina off!!!!!!
-
I have evorel patches the oestrogen only ones and am prescribed vagifem too no problems. I have found attitudes vary from dr to dr though, so I now know who to go to x
-
Thank you countrygirl. My patches contain estradiol and norethisterone. Don't know if this makes any difference x
-
Lucyjo, yes i have hrt and vagifem, [not on patches now] but i was plus Vagifem
-
Thanks ladies so much! Do I need a prescription to order from Superdrug?
-
Hi Birdy, had already ordered the Vagifem from Superdrug before reading your last post! Told them I has the patches & they are now querying the order! Will keep you posted x

Hi Lucyjo Sorry for not replying. I did see your question originally but then yesterday couldn't find it. I spent several minutes looking for it. I used Vagifem daily for the first 2 weeks and then tried to drop down but found I needed it almost daily. I have had real problems persuading the GP practice of this despite letters from consultants to say that it was ok. Had another argument with them today when they didn't want to give me a repeat prescription.
Yes you can use Vagifem together with other HRT. I am on Evorel Conti patches. Now that I am a month into doing this, I don't need Vagifem quite as often. More like 3-4 times a week instead of 5-7.
Have you tried asking for a meno clinic referral? Also have you looked at the VA private page on FB?
-
Thank you Katejo! I don't have facebook - sorry! I'm just waiting for a reply from superdrug to say if they will send me some vagifem (£40) but I'm desperate! Wish I hadn't told them I had the patches now. If they won't I will ask for a private referral - feel like I can't go on like this. Thank you so much x

Sounds like you are on the same patches as me. I was prescribed these along with vagifem by the menopause clinic. I was led to believe this was standard practice.
-
It seems ridiculous doesn't it? why is there not a standard procedure for prescribing these. Still not heard anything back from Superdrug. I don't think they'll let me have them x
-
Superdrug said YES!!!!! Vagifem should be delivered tomorrow morning xx

I only suggested the FB page because it is a very useful source of info on VA. It is managed by Mary Jane who is also on this forum. Plenty of women find that Vagifem (and its alternatives like Estriol and Ovestin) aren't sufficient.
Your GP should let you have Vagifem as well as the patches.
-
Thank you so much ladies for all your help & support. How long do you think before I start to feel more comfortable below, using the Vagifem & Evorel Conti?? Not that I'm impatient or anything!!
-
Just read "Ask a patient" reviews of Vagifem and they are horrific!!! Really scared now - don't know what to do.
Please help - having an anxiety attack big style x
-
Lucyjo,i think you are right to be worried, or at least concerned, there are some women who have taken nothing more than Vagifem and had bad side effects, and some of the information is to do with Vagifem alone,
I am not using it anymore , nor Evoral Conti, my hair has only fallen out since using vagifem, and latterly EC
I think it depends on the person, most people will be fine with it, but not everyone will
You could try it and see how it goes with you, for a short time
Edited to say,yes Vagifem does make a difference, not saying they don't, but i am not using anymore.and the leaflet doesn't tell you as much as the website or , patient reviews
-
Thank you Birdy & Jaycee, you're right - I won't know unless I try them. I think I am so worried about everything in life xx
-
I have ordered the YES VM - should be here next week x
-
Lucyjo, how are you getting on with he Vagifem and Evoral Conti,,did you try the Vagifem? as you wee quite worried about it
-
Hi Ladies, been on Evorel Conti about 1 month now & Vagifem 2 weeks & Yes vm for 1 week. Think they are helping with the VA but I know it's early days. Got smear test tomorrow - that should be fun!!!! Will keep you posted & thanks for asking xxx
-
Hi ladies, just been for the dreaded smear test!! Pretty horrific. The nurse is referring me to a gynaecologist because so sore, bleeding and polyp. Also asking for vagifem to be prescribed ( instead of me paying £40 from superdrug). Hope something gets sorted soon - totally fed up xx

If the nurse is at your GP practice, she should surely be able to ask the GP to prescribe you the Vagifem rather than you having to wait to see a gynae?
-
Hi Katejo, yes she is asking for the vagifem from the gp but is referring me because of the soreness & polyp & the bleeding x
-
No! Waiting for him to ring me to say yes or no to vagifem & to confirm the referral. Love the little angry devil x
