Title: Excessive sweating
Post by: SandyS on July 25, 2019, 10:03:46 AM
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can help me with this horrendous problem of sweating!I know the weather at the moment isn't helping but this has been happening in winter too.
I start sweating within about 5 mins of starting walking each morning with my dog even when it's cold. It pours down my back, under my boobs and my hair also becomes damp. It's all so embarrassing.
I have recently switched my tablet oestrogen to sandrena gel, was on 2mg per day and have inc to 3 last couple weeks but doesn't seem to have made any difference. Do I need more? I take 200 utrogestan also.
I'm awaiting referral to menopause clinic but told it could take weeks!
Any advice would be great

Hi Sandy, it's a typical menopause symptom. You're not alone.
Best to keep notes about what's going on.
If you take the natural route, you'll be able to gauge what's going on and your symptoms will gradually decrease.
If you choose the hrt route, this will mask your symptoms and you will not know what's going on until you come off it.

HRT may help you get through the symptoms!  Hormone 'replacement' therapy [replacement is often forgotten ;-) ]

Keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress.

Is the 3mg of gel two pumps a day?
How often do you take utrogestan?
Do you have any other symptoms with this amount?
How long have you been taking hrt in total?
Are you peri or post menopause?

My oestrogen is in 1mg sachets
Utrogestan is taken every evening
I have been on hrt since 2014 firstly femoston 2/10
Then it was amended to elleste solo 2mg with 200 utrogestan about 2years ago.
I recently asked for gel as I thought it might help with migraines. Only 3 weeks ago, and I have increased to 3 x 1mg sachets each morning.
Other symptoms are weight gain, lack of motivation, generally feeling flat, increase bladder and decreased bowel . And breathless quite quickly too.
All the symptoms have been ongoing for around 2 years now and I'm getting very frustrated and fed up with it all.

Hi Sandy, I had very bad breathlessness with hrt aswell.

If you've been on it 6 years, would you come off it? It could be causing you these troubles?

What stage of menopause are you at?

That dose of utrogestan sounds high? Are you post meno?

May sound daft but really no sure!
I was just starting to get irregular period when starting hrt and on femoston was having regular bleed but once they switch me to elleste and utrogestan the bleed stopped straight away. Which is what dr was expecting.
That was 2 years ago now.

I am quite worried to come off hrt altogether as I couldn't cope with anything worse than I have now.
I did try reducing oestrogen around year ago but made me irritable and disturbed sleep

It helped me- but I am very naughty and use 2mg of Femeston and 100mcg patch !!!! Which I think is about 6mgs of Oestrogen!!!! I am planning to reduce the patch one the 2 mgs dose kicks in properly, but only to 50mcg.
Night sweats are so much better and don't particularly sweat much in the day.
My current battle is is with GP and wretched meno clinic who want me to take more progesterone, but are not moaning about the high Oestrogen. I cannot tolerate utrogestan makes me sick.
Try it see what happens, but I am prepared to take consequences of my action👌

Sandy, there's a chance you may be over natural menopause symptoms and the hrt is too much for your body.

You could start by reducing it all by half over the next 3 months and see how it is?

....and also change from 200 utrogestan to 100.. ?!

I suffer with this, too.

I'm on about 3 pumps of gel and 2.5mg of Provera (which I'm waiting to see if I can change).

I've always been a sweater (not very ladylike), but menopause sweating is extreme even for me. I've started to smell sweaty, too  >:(

I've recently started using Odaban spray on my forehead, armpits, cleavage and underboob area (damned large breasts that have always been a literal and otherwise pain), and it works.

I have MS and the slightest heat and sweating drains me utterly (anyone remember the deflating lady ad for Complan? That's me in the heat even in winter). Just reducing the underboob sweating has a marked difference in my energy and the lack of cleavage sweating (side-sleeper unfortunately) in the night makes a difference to the neck rash I was having. Not having to mop my forehead is a relief, too.

I'm not keen on messing with nature like this but needs must and I don't seem to have sprouted excess sweat pumps anywhere else on my body.

If you decide to use it follow the instructions (though I don't wash it off in the morning) and don't try to apply it every night or you'll get a weird itch. It goes away if you don't apply so often, though.

I have experienced excessive sweating too which meant I couldn't use HRT patches as they just slipped off!! and after ruling out adrenal issues I was put on gabapentin and it has been great. I'm now trying other HRT to manage the symptoms but am not having much luck 😟 I'd not had a period for three years but since starting these tablets it has been constant and very heavy. Am hoping GP can help when I can get an appointment!

So, I might increase oestrogen to 4sachets and decrease utrogestan to 100
Will look to buy the odaban and give that a go too, thanks 😀

Hi all my body is weird as I find the more estrogen I have the more I sweat

When I had hysterectomy and ovaries removed 5 yrs ago I went through a stage of sweating but by 4 th year had stopped I'm guessing because my estrogen dropped lower now I'm taking estrogen only hrt it's worse again also I've just changed to a patch Estradot 75 as wasn't obsorbing the gel but don't feel great pelvic pain and sweating more the 50 though I didn't think was enough and I find I have heavy arms whereby when I used gel on my legs didn't get this oh and headaches to I think I may have to drop to 50 I think my body got used to low estrogen and so now get just making me worse and hair started shedding feet clammy sweating under boob groin and armpits it horrible

The other thing you could try if not already tried is AD, I was put on Fluoxetine for that reason, has helped along with HRT, I started them less than a week apart so not sure which or how much both have helped! x

Hi SJ, yes it was for that reason I was initially put on Fluoxetine, I've been on it since around March, was changed to Mertazapine on Friday to see if it would help with my insomnia as my sleep is still not great! x

I'm on Everol 75 & Provera 5mg (daily). The hair shedding thing for me has been long term, I have an underactive thyroid so have been on thyroxine for about 15+yrs, still have hair falling out. OH used to have to hoover my pillow daily!! ;D I can't say I've noticed it get any worse probaby if anything bit better sine HRT. My sleep is def better but was still not great a few hours a night, despite Magnesium & Vit D, change in diet etc. Very frustrating!! Sorry to hear about your vulval issues, sorry I can't help, have you read Maryjane's book? x

yeh progesterone. I know a few folk have said about patches not sticking, I have never had an issue since using them despite twice daily showers/baths.

Hi foxylady

See I'm shedding more now on estradot patch have only been on it 4 days but was previously on the estrogel 2 pumps I don't take progesterone but wondering if my body needs it to balance estrogen which I've been advised I can rake utrogestan 100mg daily as I have no uterus but it wouldn't do me any harm , but I also have low estrogen levels but low estrogen hasn't caused me to loose hair as I had hysterectomy 5 yrs ago and have only been on HRT 9 months and to be honest apart from reducing hot flushes I feel no better and now have gained weight by a stone and loosing my hair plus suffering depression and anxiety but as I'm only 40 I need estrogen really it's so hard and exhausting I e had to quit working cause my mental health through menopause and all this since starting hrt the only Symtom I had was vaginally and dampness and was slightly emotional at times hot flashes has tapered off by 4th year .

Have you seen a meno specialist or is there one you could see locally?

Hi foxylady

Yes I'm under a menopause specialist but they have given me options to try but basically so what's best for me but I've tried elleste solo patch bad side effects then tried estrogel but not obsorbing thinning hair then tried everol wouldn't stick now on estradot 75 so far so good but hair shedding more I'm hoping it will settle and VA well vagina feels a bit dryer but going to increase the Ovestin to 3 times a week . But I'm getting pelvic pain on and off from the patch which seems to be on 75 dose not on 50 but on 50 get hot sweats x

Any thoughts
