Title: Revolutionary moment!!
Post by: sadielouise78 on July 05, 2019, 07:43:56 AM
Hi all,

So I had a revolutionary moment last night!  3 weeks ago I was banned from taking oral HRT due to having had (at some point in the distant past) a migraine with aura.  There is no guidelines to say I can't take it but my doctor decided she would rather air on the side of caution and take me off them after a year of feeling wonderful and back to normal.  For anyone that's not aware, if you have migraine with aura you can't take the combined contraceptive pill so my doctor has decided that probably shouldn't have an oral combined HRT either soI was put on the Evorei Sequi patch and for 3 weeks I have felt like shit and only realised yesterday why. All the menopause symptoms came back and I was actually getting to the point of having very scary thoughts about my future with this bit of plastic stuck to my arse.  It's my hen weekend tomorrow and I was feeling so ill and not looking forward to it.  Anyway at 11pm last night I took the damn patch off!  Hurrah!  And today I feel wonderful!  Even if this feeling of wonderfulness only goes on until Monday when I see the doctor again I don't care!  Girl Power!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't l ow how to post a pic, but it was the British Menopause Society yearly conference yesterday and Prof Anne McGregor Making it very clear, that migraine with or without aura does NOT contraindicate transdermal oestrogen.

Prof Mc is the U.K. ( probably world ) authority on migraines, so yes you can use HRT.

That's reassuring, I've suffered from migraines since childhood. Also on HRT, Everol 75mcg patches & Provera 5mg tablets.

I didn't go , but twitter was alive with those who did & this was one of the comments. 😊

I was at another event however with a panel of 7 & spoke about VA, which is definitely getting out there since my book & going public, I get emails from GPs now who love the book & are recommending it. 🙌

I have migraines and feel utterly dreadful ...DREADFUL with them on tablet form HRT. fast forward to April and I'm put on oestrogel and Progesterone and my migraines have gone from between 3-4 per week ( I kid you not) to maybe two per month. And way less intense. I feel like a miracle has occurred. Five years I've suffered. Thank you to Louise Newson's website for the revelation in my case

The contraindications to hRT are listed on this website:

https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/contraindications.php

Contraindications for HRT.

    Pregnancy
    Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding
Active or recent blood clot or myocardial infarction (heart attack)
Suspected or active breast or endometrial (womb) cancer
Active liver disease with abnormal liver function tests
    Porphyria cutanea tarda

Migraine is not mentioned!

... and here is info about migraine form this site:

Migraine
Migraine is often triggered by hormonal fluctuations and therefore may occur around the time of a period. Such migraine may improve at the time of the menopause. Some women find that migraine may be triggered by the daily hormone fluctuations which can occur with oral (tablet) HRT so the transdermal (patch or gel) route is usually preferred with a history of migraine.

https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/atoz.php#GlossM

Even the product info for one of the transdermal oestrogens - Estradot for example - do not list migraine as contra-indication for taking HRT, but just needs close supervision in previous sufferers or those for whom migraine previously occurred with hormonal treatments. There is really no excuse for docs' ignorance!

Hope you enjoyed (still enjoying!!) your hen weekend :)
