Title: Hrt and normal bloods
Post by: Pink68 on June 26, 2019, 08:48:32 PM
Hi I was just wondering if any of you ladies have taken hrt despite normal blood results for hormone test. I know blood results are unreliable but was wondering if anyone has started hrt and helped their symptoms.
Thanks x

Hi Pink68

I've never had blood tests checked because as you say they are unreliable..

Most Docs go by symptoms.

Have you looked at the 34 Symptoms listed on site?

What symptoms are you having ? I may well be able to enlighten you on them.

Ann x

pink68, yes I've been on HRT for 3+ months following 3 year of symptoms and 2 lots of normal FSH & LH bloods (now know they are unreliable and shouldn't be used as a diagnostic tool). I have had definate improvements in my symptoms, the only one still struggling with is sleep (recently changed HRT been on it for 2 weeks). Lots of info on here and other reliable websites re HRT and menopause, peri or otherwise.

Hi smokey1234, my periods are irregular, slight flushes, sweats, chills, thinning hair. Fatigue is horrendous , it just hits you like sheer exhaustion! Joint pain dry skin. The list goes on. Despite all these symptoms my bloods came back normal! One GP gave me hrt, the other said I didn't need it! So I got the prescription everol sequi, it's still sitting in the cupboard!😳😳
Don't know what to do. X

Like you I had a prescription for ages, before actually trying it and then only used half a patch for over 6 months. Also evorel sequi.  I was very reluctant to take HRT but glad I did. I do have good days and bad ones but am generally much better than before I started it. I never had blood tests. Some doctors have very little expertise in the menopause and there is a legacy with some of worries about increased risk of breast cancer which makes them reluctant to prescribe. My doctor is great, but a practitioner at the surgery said to me "don't think you're getting HRT for headaches". I asked for a referral to a menoplause clinic and although it was over 30 miles away it was worth it as I got good advice. Good luck to you.

I was still having fairly regular periods though I was 56 at the time, so I'm guessing I was close to end of peri. Obviously don't know now as I have a withdrawal bleed, though I do get sharp lower pains in ovary region off and on for a day, which seem to fit in with when I would be ovulating.

Pink68 I would get your prescription and give it a trial for at least 3 months to see how you are, what have you to lose?? Much more to gain. Let us know how you get on. x

Hi pink68 , I'm still having fairly regular periods and am day 6 of starting femoston 1/10 hrt tablets . My blood tests were normal and tbh were just rule out any other underlying conditions.
My symptoms where horrendous ,but mostly my mood has been the worst. I've never felt so low in my life with no energy or enthusiasm for anything. I just couldn't see any joy in life despite having an amazing husband and kids. I just wanted to cry and hide away from everyone. My head felt full of darkness , it's the only way I can think to describe it. I do have other issues which I intend to try and deal with regarding sexual response but I am feeling better in myself after such a short time. I am so glad so far it's positive, I feel now I can deal better with the other stuff!
I feel the benefits of trying hrt far out way any risks... I feel like me for the first time in 18 months.
