Morning ladies. Sorry, I could do with a bit more help if you don't mind please ! I appear to be doing ok on my current HRT but I've got a bit of discomfort down below and I'm not sure if it's VA ??? It's a bit hard to explain but it's a kind of a slight ache/soreness and a feeling of being aware of my undercarriage. I don't feel that I keep needing to pee or anything like that. To be frank, I haven't had much of a libido for months and months now as I've felt so poorly but the thought of have anything near that area at the moment is very unappealing :o I think I know I need to use something down there but not sure what.
Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

VA presents in several ways. R U constipated because slow transit can cause pressure around the whole area. However, it won't hurt to use appropriate VA treatment from the GP for 3-4 months to see if it helps those feelings.
Maybe see your Nurse Practitioner for advice?
-
Thanks CLKD. Yes, have always had trouble 'going' and although I'm not constipated at the moment, it always takes me about 20 mins to go. I accepted long ago that this is just the way my body works. Taking HRT definitely affects my digestive system but I'm trying to manage this separately as my current regime seems to be managing my meno symptoms resonably well. Is this part of the problem do you think?
Thanks again.

HORMONES!
Vaginal atrophy mimics urine infection-type symptoms really, really well. Have a word with your Nurse at the Surgery?

Thank you :) x

Let us know how you get on?
-
Hi Rosie63 - I would definitely get this checked out with the doctor. It may be the start of VA although since you only started HRT relatively recently for the first time (is this correct? Perhaps you restarted after a long break?), I would have thought you would have experienced VA some time ago eg in your 50's maybe?
There is also a possiblity of a slight prolapse - especially if you've had children and more than one, and also especially if you have to strain to go? Twenty mins is a long time for a BM so this could have had an effect coupled with oestrogen deficiency and reduction in collagen and everything becoming more lax generally!
Are there any changes you can make in your diet/exercise to make things move along a bit easier (in that dept!)?
Let us know the outcome...

Hi Hurdity. Thanks for replying. My story is that that I've been on HRT since I was 50 so coming up to 15 years. I was on Prempak up until 2 years ago and have been trying another regime that suits me since then. The Femoston conti seems to have settled things down nicely but now getting this discomfort underneath. I had an ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago to check out bleeding and spotting but nothing sinister found. Just a small fibroid apparently. I'm thinking a prolapse might have shown up on this scan, do you think?
I try to exercise 2 or 3 times a week, yoga and swimming. The trouble is I never really feel that I want to go so have to give it a bit of time for me system to work...sorry for this info ;) As I've had IBS(c) for years, I wouldn't be surprised if this might have something to do with the feelings I'm getting now. I'm going to try some pelic floor exercises to see if that helps, although this is probably like shutting the door after the horse has bolted ;D
I'm going to give the doctors a call this morning to see if I can speak with a nurse or doctor. I'm going to Greece on Monday for a week and I'm a bit worried it might get worse while I'm away!
Thanks again Hurdity. Have a good weekend.

You may find that a change of diet will ease bowel movements. Anything oily?

Thank you so much Birdy. That's very helpful. I'll take a look for my local GUM clinic and make an appointment for when I get back from holiday. A lot of those feelings you mention I get on and off, especially the buzzing sensations but I had no idea it could be VA.
Thanks again.

Yes, that's how the buzzing feels Birdy. It's very strange. I wonder sometimes when I get these odd feelings whether I have a strange look on my face, like wide-eyed because people must wonder why my expression just changes because they just happen randomly :o
I've made an appointment with GP for when I get back from holiday and have located my local GUM clinic. Do I have to get referred by my GP, Birdy? Also, just one last question, sorry. Is there anything I can buy otc to use whilst I'm on holiday to help ease the soreness and discomfort?
Thanks again for your support.

Just been reading another thread about vaginal discomfort and someone mentioned about progesterone possibly causing discomfort. I'm wondering if this might be at the root of my problems as it's only started since I've been using continuous HRT. I wondered if any of you ladies had a view on this? I'm guessing GP will poo poo this theory ::)
Thanks again.

Was this on here Rosie, i.e. Vaginal Atrophy thread?
-
'symptoms and they can ...... '
-
Yes, was on here CLKD. In the post named The Burning Club on the first page. Some had posted that they had been taken off HRT and it was thought the progesterone might have been irritating things.....unless I'm misinterpreting.
Have a good weekend.

HORMONES !! How R U today?
-
Thanks for taking the time to help me with this Birdy. I will definitely be in touch with the clinic when I get back from holiday. I will let you know how things progress.
I'm not too bad today thanks CLKD. In fact I've felt a bit better as the day's gone on. I've used some coconut oil down below to see if that helps and taking Nurofen. I think this is what I will have to do when I'm away and just hope it doesn't get any worse.
Wishing you ladies well and thanks again for your support.

I will do CLKD.... :)

I looked online at my GUM clinic and it does not really mention anything except contraception, HIV, STI and clamydia testing. Can they really help?
-
Some do others deal purely with sexually transmitted problems.
4 me VA was like razor blades up there :o
