Title: 2020 - May Day - NOT Monday
Post by: CLKD on June 10, 2019, 04:09:32 PM
May Day is traditionally held on a Monday, but will be put back to Friday, 8 May in 2020 to accommodate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

But Simon Aherne and Anna Cousins, from Cardiff, say the lack of notice has left their plans in tatters as most guests will be unable to attend.

Do pass this on - lots of people may make the 'usual' holiday plans for May Day next year but it's NOT Monday!

Yes, but with Easter having a long weekend, don't think they would consider it.

Unfortunately we can't change VE day.  It's just a one off so back to normal the year after.  Isn't there some rule that if a Bank Holiday falls on a day you would have off anyway, you get a day in lew?

Thanks for posting this - I wasn't aware!! One year - was it a jubilee or something there was an extra BH over the MayDay - might have been the Tuesday or possibly the Friday! "They" can do what they like... ::) no doubt there were endless meetings to decide - who decides anyway about our public hols?

Yes Shadyglade - a certain number of hours in lieu depending on hours worked pw if your day off is on a public holiday - and probably depending on the company.

My friend wasn't given any option.  It was 'you', 'you' and 'them' ...... all employers can choose which holidays their staff can take including Bank Holidays.

At my work the library is staffed by security on bank holidays but we have to cover the Saturday of that weekend if we are on the rota to do so.
