Title: Itching
Post by: vickypk on May 26, 2019, 05:32:26 PM
Hi
Just need some advice  please.
I've been having bad itching down below, never had that before. I've had it for a few weeks now and becomes painful at times and is getting me down.

Thank you

More than likely vaginal atrophy but you MUST get Lichen Sclerosus ruled out, don't self treat & see your GP.

I agree with MJ.

In the meantime, make sure that the area is moist as dryness increases the itchiness!  I have used LIVE yoghurt successfully in the past: lay on a warm towel and apply gently - cool and soothing ;-)

Thanks Maryanne and CLKD for your replies. Will make an appointment to see the GP and will try the yoghurt. It is best to get checked out.

Have you ruled out thrush?

Hi Sjeila99
Thanks for your reply. Don't think it's thrush, although I've never had that before. The itching I have is all over down below. Not sure if thrush is like that.

Thanks Birdy.
I have been diagnosed with VA before but never had this itching. Thanks very much for your advice xx

Just been using the evorel conti patches  only ever had dryness but didn't realise VA could cause itching as well. Feel a bit better about it now thanks. Thought I had something bad.

Birdy - LIVE yoghurt applied is soothing.  I have used it to help following anti-biotic therapy to cleanse the whole digestive tract, eaten and applied ........  ;)

Why did you stop the VA treatment Vicky?  As the skin dries it may become itchy, think of arms and legs, well it's the same in the vagina.

Thanks. Will get checked out and ask for a referral as the itching is a new thing.   The first I have heard of LS and read up on it now.
The patches have always helped the dryness.
Thank you for taking the time to reply xx

I don't take HRT other than localised treatment for vaginal atrophy, i.e. Ovestin.  Some require several methods together to keep symptoms at bay.
