HI
Well its been a long tie since I logged on, this site was an amazing help when i first started the menopause and was trying hrt which in the end i gave up on, a few years down the line the anxiety has gone thankfully, i still get flushes and night sweats but for the last year have been getting facial hair around my jawline, mainly, a little by the side of my mouth, i shave it off every night, it is horrible and drives me mad, if i shave it is will be back as bad the next night.
Anybody experience this and can recommend a solution please
x :'(

Yep. Read 'my chin!' thread ;-). tweezers are my 2nd Best Friend :D

I use tweezers too or try epilating,it shouldn't grow back quickly if you do that

Hi Karenja.
I use Vichy hair remover. It's brilliant, just put a little on, (it's a cream) wait a few minutes, wash off. All gone! No stinging, no irritation, just smooth skin....it's a bit pricey, about £8-£9
a go, but lasts ages, and million times better than Nair hair remover, which I could feel stinging, and left my face red, blotchy and sore....the Nair one is only 99p from savers, and even though it's the one for sensitive skin, it still stung me.....I'm so glad I've found the Vichy one, it's much better....xx

Hi
I bought battery operated twizzers, they don't look like twizzers it's like little razor shape but fine wire which pulls the hairs out , I got mine on eBay and the cost wasn't much .
Type in hair remover on eBay and it will come up
It's white and blue in colour think it's around £6

Karenja, if you have dark hair and fair skin and are are looking for something more long lasting (only electrolysis is permanent 'though) have you considered laser or IPL? Salon treatments are very expensive and the hormonal ups and downs of meno means that you will have to keep going regularly but some of the home devices are very effective and more convenient 'though still on the pricey side.
For IPL the Philips Lumea get's a lot of praise on Mumsnet and I have the Smoothskin Gold for larger body areas like legs with a small Tria laser for face and underarms. They both slow down hair growth a lot and my hair is now very patchy and growing in more slowly after only 6 weeks of use. Unfortunately a lot of my facial and underarm hair is now white so that has to be yanked out or shaved. Wish these products had been available years ago when all my hair was really dark :(. Have a look at the online site Current Body for a range of options if you're interested.

My daughter got a lumea to test and it was rubbish, apparently costs a fortune too over £200!! Lots of nasty burning smells but long term it was no better than any other hair removal treatment
Think you're right saffy, depends on hair colour xx

Lazer treatment hurts :-\

Laser at a salon is pretty eye-watering but the home devices aren't painful at all. Certainly a lot, lot less than waxing or epilating :o.

I've had a number of laser hair removal sessions in the past few months. I started off with underarms and that worked so well I decided to get my chin and upper lip done as well. On my chin I kept getting these sprouting very dark thick hairs, hated them. Also my upper lip had quite dark hairs, I felt a bit moustachey. The laser treatment has got rid of them all. I don't know how long it will last, remains to be seen, but I'm very happy with the results so far. Hormonal hair growth such as chin/lip is harder to eradicate and is more likely to come back than underarm hair, say.
Didn't find the treatment at all painful. The laser removal is only effective on a dark hair / light skin combo. I'm loving the never-having-to-worry-about-underarms thing :).
As an aside, I've been told by more than one beauty therapist that it's a really bad idea to pluck chin/lip hair. It damages the follicle and can cause ingrown hairs and irritated skin. Best to just shave or use an effective hair removal method, don't pluck.

She don't know what she's talking about! I've been plucking for 20 + years and never had problems.
Laser cannot be used at home. So what ever the 'home' system is, it ain't the same strength as what is available in a salon ;-)

I have a home laser CLKD, there is only two products by the same company on the market in the UK. All the others are actually IPL devices. You are right 'though, both home laser and IPL are not as strong as those available in the salons.

Thank you all so much I will look into your suggestions, this site is amazing :)

Yep we know quite a bit about stuff ;D
I can feel small hairs under my chin, bet they turn out to be thick and white when pulled in the morning ......... and soft bum fluff on my cheeks, what's that about ::). Sometimes I think that a Burka would be ideal when out and about :D
