Title: Acne
Post by: Bradenton69 on May 07, 2019, 09:45:54 AM
Hi there.

Have any of you suffered from acne due to peri menopause?  I suffered as a young adult bit after taking a course of treatment ended up with clear skin. Now the dreaded acne has plagued me again. My skin goes from angry to dry and always seems to be under the skin brewing away. Not on HRT  at the moment. Any advice greatly appreciated

As CKLD says it's hormones.
I was exactly the same had acne since I was around 18 - face, back & chest - had treatment with meds tried them twice no help, had skin peels they worked. I only had a good few years, then once I started surgical menopause I get the odd breakout and odd nasty one under skin.

I had awful acne when I first started perimenopause. Really really bad, it was so embarrassing looking at ppl and even teens had fewer spots than me. Felt desperate. It took a couple of years to really clear up, and at the time I hadn't connected it to hormones, so your ahead of me.

Menopause is like puberty in reverse in so many ways, mood swings, acne, irregular periods, anxiety and the rest.

What I did was invest in a ton of new makeup, concealer became my new best friend.

Forgot to add that after seeing GP he gave me some Zineryt which did seem to help calm it down, maybe ask your Doc for help.

Acne here too!  I was on HRT for 2 months.  First month, nothing unusual.  Last month, acne the whole time...probably because I had 2 periods and PMS daily.  Just took patch off yesterday.  I use spot treatments.  But, It is definitely hormones... I have old pics of me after giving birth and my forehead looked like I had chicken pox.  Of course it doesn't help that I have to pick at everything  ;D

Rosie I always picked & regretted it due to scarring but a lot of them are not noticeable anymore.

Some hrt brought me out in acne, use oil free products is a must and I use a lotion from mario badesco it's a drying lotion. The best face wash I've tried without drying the skin is super facialist anti blemish from boots. Xx
