I started using estrogen gel 12 days ago and will start taking progesterone in a couple of day's time as still having regular periods. My main reason for starting HRT was mood swings, anxiety and brain fog. However, scince I started the HRT my anxiety has become worse, having very bad palpitations and panic attacks every day.. I've had to take time off work and am struggling to function normally. I emailed my doctor and she said that the hormones take a couple of weeks to work and I shouldn't be feeling any effects as yet. Just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience ? Would be very grateful for any feedback! Thank you

In peri, you can still get oestrogen surges from your ovaries, and it can take a couple of months for these to settle. You don't say how much gel you are using? Some ladies find it helpful to reduce the amount at first and gradually increase, but that would be best done with the guidance of your gp xx

Agree with this advice. Anxiety was one of my symptoms too. If I have too much oestrogen the anxiety returns. If you're struggling to function personally I would reduce the dose and build up slowly.

Thank you both - that was the gp's advice as well so have reduced the amount I'm using. Was curious to see if anyone else had had similar experience and if this eventually sorted itself out. On the verge of stopping taking it but would like to persevere if I can!

I have been trying to get a balance with hrt for a long time I am on oestrogen only as I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago and with me I have found that if it's to high my anxiety is much worse. I am back to a patch now I couldn't get on with gel at all but lots of ladies are fine with it.

Hello rebannwood and welcome to the forum.
I am also using Oestrogel and anxiety is my main symptom. I wonder if a patch would be better at delivering a consistent 24 hour dose which would even out any hormone spikes through the day.
Take care.

I would give it a try Kathleen I dident realise until I started gel but you do have a more constant dose with a patch.
