Just returned from yet another doctors appointment......so an update......vaginal scan result was fine so that is good......however still have uti type symtoms some days worse than others have had 3 urine infections since December .....doctor has now said to stop ovestin ( stings like mad) and gives headaches and not to use Vagifem either.....and is now sending me for scan of bladder to check emptying ok 😳......did vaguely mention bladder stretching if needed ......don't think i will go down that route......i am at my wits end ....i have got mild atrophy not as bad as some of you ladies...but now seems they are going look at bladder ....just need reassurance xx
-
Hi there Mrs B I suffered terribly with uti's one after the other, they've stopped now thankfully, was told it's par for the course.not on hrt so can't comment on that, sorry.hope you get some relief soon xx
-
Interesting Mrs Bennet because I too had so many UTI's around two years ago that my doctor actually recommended me to start using Vagifem as it is known to help women. I did a lot of research, asked questions on here because my mother died of B.C (CLKD was particularly helpful) and decided to start using it. I also had a cystoscopy which showed nothing. I had the scan with a full bladder followed by an empty one and nothing. In all honesty my GP did send my sample for further tests after the sixth UTI in a row because the normal ones were negative and they showed that I had a hard to treat bacteria. This she treated with two weeks of antibiotics and I then started the Vagifem. I think your GP needs to do a bit of checking on post meno ladies as he/she is ill informed in my humble opinion

Hi mrs B,
I have a bad reaction to oestrogen creams but have been fine with estring which is a silicone ring that slowly realeases the estrogen stored at its core. There are no fillers so less chance of a reaction. It has really helped prevent the recurring UTIs I was struggling with

Worth its weight in gold ;D

Thank you all 🤗........Herdwick i have recently finished a week course of nitrofurantoin and really think i should of had longer.....as previously have had 2 x 3 day and 1 other 7 say course all since December.....the samples which are sent off come back with bacteria even though dip shows nothing......doctor is sending off todays sample so we will see.....i just feel uncomfortable all the time ....I don't really go to the loo more and I don't need to get up in the night......so goodness knows whats going on .....I won't have a stretch though even if they say i need it .....😳.....don't know how to address the atrophy treatment or lack of it if doctor has said leave off for the time being ....have to admit it wasn't really helping ....but probably not used for long enough xx
-
Birdy i hope you are right......yep scan was with probe......report didn't mention bladder and I don't have ovaries.....it reported vagina atrophic and that the uterus lining was thin 😳.....xx
-
Is estriol not the same as ovestin 😳??
-
Thank you so much Birdy.....i feel very low after my appointment this morning .....doc doesn't want to see me until after i have had scan 😩...which no doubt will be a few weeks as she said it wasn't urgent....so will not be able to ask for an alternative oestrogen.....I'm going on holiday soon so now really worried.....have seen 3 different doctors plus nurse since December and don't feel i am any further forward xx
-
I have Vagifem and ovestin.....however i seem to be sensitive to both ......which is why doctor said stop i guess....also told me if I hadn't seen any bladder improvement at all after the 2 week loading & then twice weekly it probably wasn't going to work for me ......xx
-
I went through a bad time of bladder problems and a few UTIs. When I first had it....10 years ago I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis which freaked me out but a low dose of amitriptyline did settle my bladder dowm after a while. Then I had a mirena coil fitted for heavy bleeding so maybe that helped too but it went away for a long time. It returned 2 years ago but with another UTI followed by persistent bladder irritation sensitivity and urgency etc. I have prolapses too so maybe related but basically they found nothing wrong with my bladder after tests including a cystoscopy. I think it may be hormonal but also anxiety driven in me. I wondered if that might be the case for you too? I also cannot use oestrogen cream. It makes me burn and get thrush and vaifem has also just ended with crazy inflammation with a horrid itchy rash. So HRT is a no for me but D mannose YES and multigym with olive amd bee are what give me relief.
-
Thank you jessieblue.....i have yes moisturiser and will look into D mannose ..........you could also be right on the anxiety front i am in overdrive today 😩
....thinking you may be right about the doctor Birdy......both ovestin and Vagifem gave me horrendous headache but thinking maybe should have persevered now don't know what to do for the best... just keep thinking something horrid is wrong with my bladder xx
-
Just been looking at the D mannose will it work if i have an infection.....all mine have been ecoli .......and which one is best as there are several.....mildest maybe the way forward for me to start with as seem to have sensitivity to most meds 🙄 xx
-
Mrs b. I dont find estriol 0.01 stings. I use it on the outside. It is weaker than ovestin. So internal dose from applicator is more cream than ovestin. I find it helps with dryness but hasn't helped my bladder.
D mannose sounds interesting.
-
At least i don't have blood in my pee....what is it with these doctors....appointments are like hens teeth so will probably have to just wait for scan and self treat in the interim .....you have all been so helpful as ever xx
-
How ridiculous of your gp to say it won't work after a 2 week load and 2x week and you shouldn't have to wait for something else till after your scan. Surely they can prescribe some of the estriol that is mentioned on here. I feel so angry for you. I really wonder why some of these people become gp's they are so uncaring.
-
I know Suzysunday it's just crazy.....have just ordered some Dmannose will try anything......doubt if todays sample results will be back until next week so need to just help myself......if I don't get any relief i will get an emergency appointment next week.......Birdy suggested the GUM clinic but I don't have the confidence to go there .....pathetic i know 🙄 xx
-
Forgot to say doctor dismissed womens physio so i have made a private appointment only problem cannot get an appointment until the end of the month 🙄 xx
-
Will give it more consideration Birdy 😊......thank you so much for your advice I'm trying to be more positive and get the anxiety under control.....got burning now 😳 not inside ....outside ....DMannose on its way should get it tomorrow.....🤞 it will help xx
-
That is the same with me Birdy, nearly 3 years since I was diagnosed and health anxiety has gone through the roof. Mrs Bennett, this condition makes you feel so down. Maybe pluck up the courage and go to a gum clinic and get some answers.
-
Late to this.
Vaginal Atrophy mimics urine infection-type symptoms really really well.
There are other conditions that also cause bladder irritation - have you read the thread about that here? I can't remember the title, sorry :-\
In the mean time take some pain relief!
-
Mrs b. I'm so sorry your doc dismissed physio. It's so unfair you have to go private when it is available on NHS and others have got it. It actually makes me want to cry to think you have been denied it. I wish I could help.
Hope the damorose helps

The nitrofuritoin will not work if you have an underlying issue like I did which was not showing up on the usual sample test. I would ask for your sample to be tested further to see if there is an infection that is not showing up. Quite a few ladies find that putting the vagifem in lower down is better than higher up
-
Thanks CLKD .....yes TC i feel cross too but feel after reading about other ladies like yourself who have seen a physio and it has helped i want to give it a go and if private is the only way 🙄......Herdwick do you know what bug they found......mine have been Ecoli and “something cocousâ€
😳🤣 on all occasions have had nitrofurantoin.....doctor has sent off sample yesterday xx
-
Birdy this is a changed doctor 😳....the previous one was worse ....no hope xx
-
Sort of sounds like me.....the surgery i had for years merged with another and my GP who was wonderful retired .....now we have this which is just a sham really they actually lost a urine sample of mine ......couldn't make it up.....i really don't have confidence in any of them.....but what do you do 🙄 xx
-
You need to know which 'coccus' it might be! E-coli is common, we all carry it. At least your samples have been sent to a Lab.. Of course, you could ring your local Pharmacist and ask what might show in a urine sample, i.e. what 'coccus' might mean.
Get some pain relief down you regularly. Ring the Dept which will do the scan and see if you can take a cancellation ..... some fail to show so an appt. means you could step in at the last moment? If you don't ask you won't get!
Maybe use KY Jelly >ducks< or another soothing ointment in outer areas. Drink enough. I find the former really helps any dryness as well as Ovestin inserted by applicator.
Repeated ABs will fail to work after a while ::)

Just want to say know how you feel mrs Bennett. Struggling myself lately with symptoms like you. Exhausted.
-
Empathise with you Suzysunday just so exhausting as you say.....my Dmannose arrived this afternoon have now taken 2 doses ......hoping for a miracle 🤞 xx
Thank you for your advice as always CLKD xx

Unfortunately I didn't write it down but the normal tests that they do did not show it up on the six occasions it was sent off for testing. The drug you have been given is the go to one for UTI's and didn't work at all for me because of the infection. The GP (a different one thankfully)that I spoke to on the seventh occasion was the one that said it needed further testing as clearly there was an underlying issue. It took longer to come back but it did show the hard to treat bacteria. E.coli was and is present in all of us so it would show up. I know you are fed up but it would be a good idea to ask if your sample could go to a lab that will check it for more than the usual. I hope you get a bit of respite soon
-
Oh my word Herdwick 😳....sounds like you have had quite a do....can't really see my surgery requesting a more in-depth test as it was hard enough persuading them to even send it to the path lab....guide lines apparently 🙄 .....xx
-
Yes it's not easy to tell these surgeries what to do. They always know best!
-
Birdy. So do the gum clinic test urine too?
Hope your o.k todayxxxx
-
Did do a bit of a search for GUM clinic near me but the local hospital has closed theres and so the nearest one is miles away 🙄....have taken several doses of the D mannose now through the night too as i seem to be nocturnal......now have diarrhoea 😩 can't win .....took a reduced amount at each dose too xx
