Post by: Hvenab on April 01, 2019, 09:50:44 PM
Silent reflux and digestive issues. Anyone had this? Has HRT helped? I haven't found HRT alternative yet. Suffering today.

I suffer terrible reflux and gastro problems so was advised to use patches so my stomach doesn't have to get involved as it's easily irritated and upset and so far no problems 3 months in x

I think it's one of those things that is part of the meno journey.  I used to have a lot of problems, during peri, but since being post meno it has gradually improved to be just a occasional annoyance.

Now - I've not had any treats in the fridge since Friday: no chocolate mousse, no egg custards, no chocolate yoghurts etc..  No chocolate eclairs ..... and 2day I realised that my reflux has gone  :o.  I saw the bottle of Milk of Magnesia under the sink and realised that I haven't had sensations for several days.

DH muttered 'fats' when I mentioned it but could he be correct?

Yes totally correct. Fatty stuff is definitely something that upsets any reflux problem. Milk is also not good although it's seen as a remedy.

Milk was used as a remedy to 'coat' an ulcer years ago.  Personally I can't stand the stuff although I do have it very cold, in a small amount, on my muesli.  I remember my Mum having dire indigestion when she was in her 40s ........ always had Milk of Magensia in the house as there wasn't much else, other than Gripe water [to which I could become addicted] .......

I am going to make a note of what I was eating until I didn't go shopping over the weekend to see if it tallies.  Except I can't remember  ::)

Interesting! Milk is a big part of my diet. I might eliminate it and see if helps or turn to skimmed. My mum suffeews in her 40s and 50s with digestive issues and still has odd issue with fat. I eat very healthy but milk on cereal, milky coffee, milk in tea, yoghurt so perhaps it's not helping.  Having said all that I have an odd day or two were things are a bit settled however I will try a diary. Thanks all much appreciated
