Well at last I have my gynae appt tomorrow for testosterone. After hoping that gradually upping my patches they would help with a whole long list of issues, it hasn't helped with those caused by FADS at all. My wonderful GP had my testosterone level checked & she had never seen anyone with a level like mine - non-existent. According to Prof Studd as I've had a hysterectomy with both ovaries removed, (2 years ago now) it's hard to justify not giving testosterone so I'm really hoping it will be prescribed for me tomorrow, please keep you fingers crossed for me and I will update tomorrow.

Thanks all, will update later x

Hope your appointment went well and that you don't have the supply issues that I did.
I've only just started T this week. I'm on 1x measure of Tostran 2x per week. I had my first dose on Tuesday and I'll be taking my second dose tomorrow. It should be interesting to see how we respond. So far nothing has changed! Early days, though 8)

Well it's good and bad news. Consultant gynaecologist I saw was lovely but seems not to have prescribed testosterone very often as she was talking about implants which aren't available anymore, so I explained what my GP mentioned about being a amber flag against the gel so while I was there she spoke to the hospital pharmacy, it seems they will prescribe it but there apparently a lot of form filling and it will have to go to LHA panal for approval, at least consultant said I would benefit and will put a strong case forward. So it's all a waiting game 2-3 months :'( Good news is consultant & nurse now know that other patients can hopefully be given it. Think I might be a test case - go me! Only disappointed it's going to take time.

Wouldn't you think ....... that 'they' would know B4 a lady requires treatment :bang:. What's wrong with these people .......
What was suggested until the decision is made, in case the answer is 'no'?
-
Nothing, if that's the case I'm stuffed. Have discussed with hubby he disagrees with the system which is understandable, it would be so much easier if testosterone was actually licensed for women, we're not living in the dark ages anymore! I go to my GP on 1st April for my 2 month everol patch review so will ask her if she can help put the pressure on otherwise I will be :bang:
-
I wouldn't have an appt. on 1st April ........ ;). Friday 13th wouldn't bother me ........... :whist:

Hopefully you'll succeed Yorkie...
Fingers crossed for you....🤞
Just hope they don't take too long, my fingers are going to get stuck like this...😃😃

Update, saw my GP today, updated her on my consultant visit and she was lost for words, so while I was there she found a form 'Prescribing Framework for Testosterone in Adults' which specialists fill in, send to GP's then back to specialist. This allows GP's to do the prescribing and follow up consultations along with the funding. Shame the consultant at the hospital was unaware of this, as it sounds that they should. Paperwork will be with her on Wednesday so hopefully it will be sorted by end of month - well fingers crossed.

Well done! Another wait for you though :(

Thanks all, sent form to consultant today.

As I hadn't heard anything after sending the forms for GP to prescribe testosterone, I phoned my consultant's secretary apparently consultant filled in forms sent them to GP, they have had them back and now have sent me an appt in post for 30th May. I thought the whole point of this 'prescribing framework' was so the GP could do the prescribing, so now I'm slightly confused and have to wait a month and hope I actually get the prescription. Here's hoping.

What a palaver! I got my first lot of Testogel from an NHS menopause clinic. After that it was down to my GP to prescribe further supplies. The first box of Testogel lasted me a year, and when I went to the GP (clutching the empty box and copy of the relevant letter, just in case he couldn't find them on his computer) he added it to my repeats, no problem. We noted with amusement that it flags up on their system as a controlled substance, but thought that might be something to do with athletes taking it, as it was all over the news at the time. It seems to be something of a postcode lottery.

Joaniepat testosterone flags up now as an amber drug!

oh what area are you in...and don't say Yorkshire ::)! It's probably a prescribing issue but they need to get with the times! NICE guidelines say it's fine so there is no real reason why you shouldn't have it. I got mine here in Northern Ireland through the NHS and prescribed by the GP and as an area, NI are not the easiest to deal with they have some weird rules for all sorts of stuff!
The only person who queried it was the actual pharmacist in the chemist and I had to explain it to her and she said she had never heard of prescribing testosterone as part of an hrt regime "but you learn something new every day"!
Good luck!

Ladybt I'm in East Yorkshire, my GP was originally happy to prescribe but as it flagged up with an amber warning she had to refer me to a consultant, then when I went back to GP for my HRT review, we discussed my appt & she printed form out for prescribing framework allowing consultant to give permission to GP to prescribe and do the aftercare. When I was at my consultant appt she spent time on phone to pharmacist I have no idea if hospital and surgery are part of the same NHS foundation trust.
