This type of HRT is a very small amount specifically to target vaginal atrophy.
It shouldn't have effect on our bodies other than to sooth symptoms. 4 me it was like razor blades up there :o.
Maybe read the vaginal atrophy threads? Also put the product name into the search box and see what pops up.

This is a very very low dose this is usually available at, and I have just started using it twice weekly for a few months initially. AG

Hi zodiac - if your VA is bad then your tissues will benefit from the full loading time of 2 weeks nightly. In fact some women need to use it nightly for far longer than this ( and some all the time!).
You feeling weepy and ratty will have nothing to do with the vagifem although if your body has been without oestrogen for some time - some sensitive women initially notice some minor side effects in the first fortnight or so judging by reports on here (being ratty and weepy is not a side effect from oestrogen - quite the opposite usually!). If you're still having a cycle maybe your own hormones are coming into play here?
I would start the 2 weeks again.

Initially this product was produced at 25 micrograms then someone in their 'wisdom' >:( decided that 10 would do.
Starting 2 weeks re-load will be beneficial. Then as necessary for you, though do read the leaflet and see what is suggested. Sometimes ladies need 2 doses in one evening ....... it's Trial and Error and once you find what works you will relax as symptoms ease.
I find when constipated - I suffer with slow transit :( - symptoms seem to be worse.

Hi thanks for the advice , i will start again lol , will have to go bk to docs for more in a couple of weeks lol x
-
Don't wait. Ring tomorrow and ask for a repeat prescription ;)

Yeh will do ill pop in when i go for my mums pension ,
Daft question does it have to be put in nightly ? X
-
No question is daft. Initially it should be every night for 2 weeks. Some ladies need a double doze occasionally. Because we lay down most of the night it means that most of the product remains in-situ ;) whereas gravity in the day time .........

It can be inserted in the morning. I tried that to see if it made any difference but it didn't so I returned to nights.

Thanks everyone , oh read the leaflet in the pack of vagifem n bloodyhell its a bit of scareie read lol but im still gona carry on with them and see how things go
Thanks xx

I never read the leaflets unless I get a symptom ::)
My suggestion was to see how many nights apart once the initial 2 week's loading, sorry :-\. I knew what I meant.

Hi Zodiac. Go for it. My GP advised me to use this after repeated Urinary infections. I couldn't see how this would help but it is given to lots of ladies with repeated UTI's. My GP also suggested this site to me as a way of finding out what others thoughts were and it helped me, particularly CLKD, to get over my anxieties in using it. Been using it for nearly two years now three times a week and no more problems. You do need to do the reload though

Morning Herdwick - lambing up there?
Vaginal atrophy mimics urine infection-type symptoms really well >:( ::)

hi Zodiac i agree with Herdwick here. I have had a problem with repeated apparent UTI's for around 10 years. I eventually got to start vagifem last september and it is working well so far. I have a follow up appointment with a urogynaecologist soon (who studied the problem of recurrent/embedded UTI's and unreliable urine tests for her PhD). Given the unreliable tests, I want to ask her this time about how we are supposed to tell whether we have VA or a UTI. The symptoms are so similar.

Will you let us know about what she found in her PhD? Thanks. This will be good knowledge to take to our GPs ;)

Hi CLKD. Yes it is so lovely here at the moment with lambs gambolling about and beautiful spring flowers. Brings a smile every day

:thankyou:

The leaflets are mostly out of date in that they give the same warnings on them as for systemic HRT so enough to put anyone off - I almost didn't start my vaginal estriol pessaries ( many moons ago - probably 2006!) as a result of the warnings!
Good luck..

It is freely available online. Will try and remember to post a link tomorrow.

Herdwick. I'm a week into the loading dose. I cant say Iv e noticed any side effects.
Using vaginal moisturisers didnt work for me. I am on systemic HRT so figured the dose in local eastrogen therapy is a fraction of that.
I agree that the manufacturers leaflets on the vaginal eastrogens seem out of step with a lot of the current medical information about the low absorption of these products into the bloodstream. I guess they have to err on the side of caution.
Katejo. My gynae diagnosed VA with a physical exam.
