Title: FEMOSTON CONTI 1MG/5MG BLEEDING
Post by: Nita5691 on March 14, 2019, 10:04:41 AM
Hiya All

I changed from Femoston Sequestial 7 months ago, and all was okay until I reached the 6th month. On the 6th month i had a light period for about 5 days. From then on, breakthrough spotting and very light bleeding has been occuring every week. Ive read the information leaflet with the tablets and it does state you can get spotting for a few months, sometimes upto 6 months. Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing this, has it eventually settled or should the breakthrough bleeding not be happening at all after 6 months. When the spotting/very light bleed happens it comes with syptoms of a proper period, and stomach bloats Look forward to hearing from you xx

Hi Nita

I too have just changed from seq femeston. I'm just finishing my 5th week on femeston conti. All seemed great. Then this week I have felt nauseous and bloated too. Had a bad night last night and now this morning I have spotting.

I always had a bad night the day before my withdrawal bleed came and now I'm wondering if this is why last night was so bad.

I realise they say it's possible for up to 6 months to bleed or spot so will have to see how it pans out and obviously leave it longer till I worry!

Maybe mention it to your nurse practitioner or GP for guidance. I live there lately!!

Hope it eases for you and wish it settles for you . X

Any bleeding after 6 months needs investigating. It could be that you are not ready for a Conti regime . You need to be period free for 12 months before starting on a Conti regime .

Thanks for your replies.

I had read you need to be period free for 12 months before moving onto a conti HRT. The trouble is when you're taking a sequential HRT you never know if periods have stopped naturally, as you're still getting bleeds, i did wonder about that when i was switched to a conti. The  GP had said I'd been on the sequential too long and should be switched to a conti.

Dotty  :) as you say, it could be that I'm not really ready for conti yet. I'll get booked in to get it checked out. Ive read taking progesterone every day doesn't suit everyone, and they have to revert back to sequential. Its a shame, as the conti really has been working to ease the symptoms.

Gusgus  :) Had a little bit of spotting at first when i changed to the conti, then it all settled, until 6 months. That's the one side effect that is troublesome with taking conti, you do get a lot of bloating. Hope things settle down for you soon xx

I had a lot of problems settling on femoston conti (started in June 2015). I got the breakthrough bleeding etc but I stuck with it & it did eventually settle down after about 5 months & I'm glad I did because there is no way I would want to go back to having regular periods if I went back to a continuous type.

I have had 2 or 3 breakthrough bleeds & scans showed fibroid or polyps which were removed by hysteroscopy.

Good luck.

Hiya

I visited the GP, and had a scan. Scan showed fibroids, but nothing to worry about. Ive got to go back to GP who did suggest that i will have to stop the HRT, which will be a shame, as, apart from the breakthrough bleeding, which has stopped for now, the tablets really work. Thanks  for all your replies  :) Nita xx

I had some similar issues so asked for the ultra low dose of 0.5/2.5 mg.

Been fine for years

Has having the fibroids removed been offered as an option Nita?
Stopping HRT has never been suggested to me before when I've had fibroids ???. I have always had the fibroids/polyps removed by having a hysteroscopy.

Let us know how you're getting on.

I've not got a follow up appointment until end of April, so will see what's said about the fibroids.

I didn't realise there was a lower dose of the conti, that's interesting. Before the scan GP said when I went back they'd take me off the HRT. I did ask if I'd have to do it gradually, as another GP had said you can't suddenly stop, has to be done over period of time, but was told no it'll just be a sudden stop, but warned symptoms would quickly return.

Will have to just wait and see when I go back. Thanks for your help xx

I don't see why you should have to come off HRT because of fibroids Nita.
Ask about having the fibroids removed, as I've already said I have had polyps & fibroids removed about 3 times after have post menopausal bleeding. I've never been told to come off HRT (they daren't  ;D).
I'm also on the ultra low dose Femoston.
Let us know how you get on.

Do they just cut them away cazikins rather than doing a hysterectomy?

Oh crikey no - it's not a hysterectomy Robin, it's a hysteroscopy. I have had them removed both under a general & a local anesthetic by hysteroscopy. It's a bit painful under GA but better than going to a dentist (in my opinion)  ;D

I'm so tired I'm not making sense  ;D . That's exactly what I meant cazikins. As in do they just cut the problems away and leave the womb. 😆. I have fibroids that aren't causing any problems but I have wondered if I would be asked to stop HRT if they increased in size. There's no way I'll be stopping it so it's really good to know what can be done thanks

I always said I would rather see a dentist than a gynaecologist ...... but then I saw my first gynae & changed my mind.
To be honest I'm scared silly of both! don't like strangers looking in my cavities  :o :o

Hi again Nita,
Would you consider having the fibroids removed & has anyone (medically) suggested this to you at all?

Yes defo consider a consider a lower dose.

Keep us posted & good luck.
