Title: Maca supplement
Post by: Jillm on March 01, 2019, 05:32:20 PM
Maca -
Hi ladies has anyone had digestion problems when using maca as a supplement.
I have been adding a small amount to my cereal, a couple of days a week. Since using my buzzing legs have improved greatly(although that could be magnesium or vit d supplement). Big huge BUT my stomach has been dreadful, stabbing gut pains, running to the loo and terrable wind.
Notused it since Tuesday and I feel a lot better😀😀
Has anyone else had problems
and if so, did the side effects go on continuing use?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Jaypo,

Nope too scared to try. My stomach problems have calmed down a lot. GP says IBS and gave me fibre supplement and mebeverole (not sure I’ve spelt that correctly) which help with cramps in gut.
I may be wrong, but I did feel better in other ways when I was adding the Maca, however I did google (know I shouldn’t) and found some posts saying it caused stomach issues. I may be was using more than I should, someone said you should start small and build up.
I am plucking up the courage to try again. If I do I’ll keep you posted
Sorry if I am not much help❤️

Jillm - you have done absolutely nothing wrong at all! Please do not apologise!!! You posted a specific question about a specific product which is not like a general question about whether others have used it!

jaypo - it's fine to post here!!!! You wanted feedback on Jillm's experiences....

We have multiple threads about all sorts of things - different types of HRT, vitamins anything really. If someone has a question they post it, especially if it hasn't been answered elsewhere....it only occasionally gets confusing  ;)

Re the searches - if you go to the home page of the forum and type in "Maca", lots of thread come up but as you say - the posts may not have talked about digestive issues. This is what I suggested jaypo to do as it would have taken me too long to post up all the links to other threads!

Hope everyone is feeling better  ::)

Hurdity x

Thanks Hurdity,

I feel much better, still too scared to try the Maca again. I have a follow up appointment on Friday to discuss the IBS, gosh it never rains but it pours, just feel better with one thing and another pops up tight behind.
I will ask about the peppermint for IBS symptoms.
Thanks again was feeling a bit silly about posting in the wrong place😳

Hi again jillm,I was diagnosed with ibs over 25 years ago,it seems an easy thing to tell people that's what they have but you have to ask,why do you get cramps'dr's can give you that easy answer but there's a reason your stomach does this,I tend to think it's either allergies to certain foods or at least intolerances. I have cut out all wheat and nuts and I've a funny feeling I now can't tolerate fizzy drinks. I'm going to immunology hopefully soon to have a proper allergy test done,if you can and I know it's a chore but if you keep a food diary, you may see that you have a flare up when certain foods are consumed,I certainly don't bloat since cutting wheat out xx

Which contain wheat,no much wonder there's such a huge range of wheat and gluten free foods these days,I wonder why there's such an increase of people intolerant to certain foods these days.
Hope you're feeling better Birdy,oh,just to mention, I get prescribed mebeverine which you can buy over the counter,it's called colofac,it relaxes your colon and hopefully stops it spasming, I take 1 3 times a day 20 mins or so before a meal,it really helps,as some days I could be on the floor with the pain, touch wood, that hasn't happened in a while 😊
