Post by: Mrs Bennet on March 01, 2019, 11:14:24 AM
Just to update on my last post.....been to the doctors and she has decided to change me from Vagifem to estriol 0.1% cream to see how i go with that 😳.....also given me zerobase 11% cream to try and calm things down as yes moisturiser was stinging .....not heard of it before .....she did an internal exam after which my symptoms seem to be worse today 😩.....she said all looked ok other than being tight .....and she couldn't feel anything untoward .....so will just have to see how i go  xx

Have you used the product yet, if not, put a dose in ....... and keep the whole area as supple as possible to stop any stetching/itchiness.

Aw thank you Birdy CLKD just filled script today so will have a go ...tube says 1mg in 1g presume this is right 😳 use twice a week as i seem to be so sensitive to meds......feeling at my wits end today 😔 doc has requested an internal scan but did say she is confident it will be all good......it's just to make sure and tick the box ......but she said that could take up to 6 weeks or so to receive the appointment.....xx

You will remain sensitive in the vaginal area until you find something that eases the symptoms  ::).

Yes it can be a long process that has made me quite depressed but just have to stick with it.   I have used ovestin for a few months alternate nights and still getting some wee feelings but less than before. Sometimes I wonder if I know what feels normal down there anymore as I question every wee and twinge after having these uti symptoms.  Hope you get some relief soon and all the best.

One should use it every night for 2 weeks so alternate nights might be better if you haven't had a reaction after Wed. application.

I'm on vagifem, and at one point I was quite dry with soreness, the doctor said I could use the vagifem for two weeks every day just to get a bit more lubricated, it did help. I wasn't allowed to use it every day permantely because of the risk of cancer at 65.

Are you using it twice a week rower? You need quality of life. My gp has been good, and prescribing Ovestin as I need and told me it will be for life . I'm 60.

Interesting I take 3 times a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Im going for my review in April so I will mention it to, I think it's to do with money saving.

Suzysunday, what ovestin is it, is it cream or pessaries

Ovestin is a cream with an applicator. I use it alternate nights and Boots own brand vaginal moisturiser the other nights.

The thing to remember with Vagifem is that up until a few years ago the tablet contained 25mcg not a measly 10!

Therefore even using it daily could hardly be called overdosing.

They cut down the dosage because they found "its all most women need" or words to that effect. Well we all know how well the "one size fits all" method works don't we?
I thought that the leaflet related to systemic HRT (in general) rather than the 25mcg dose.

Exactly. And the information leaflet that accompanies Vagifem relates to the old dosage. It's not up to date. You can use Vagifem every day, safely!

I actually had a conversation with my GP about using topical oestrogen if I came of HRT and he said it would be fine and probably necessary to use more than twice a week. I reckon the twice weekly thing is the bare minimum that perhaps works for  a few!
I have tried to reduce my frequency slightly. I can sometimes get away with alternate days but not any less frequently.

I am just going to continue with twice weekly for now......just want to feel ok........my brain seems to be permanently connected to my bladder at the moment 😳.......wondering if some of it could be psychosomatic......feeling pressure but can manage not to visit the loo constantly.......feeling anxious also......appointment for transvaginal scan came through but not until end of the month xx

Do you often find that you have to get up in the night to go to the loo? That is one of the questions which the urogynaecologist asked me. As my period of taking Vagifem gets longer, I am finding that I sleep through more frequently. There are still occasional off nights but I rarely get up more than once. I definitely benefit from using it more than twice a week.
If I get to Oct/Nov (a whole year) without a single UTI, I will really feel that Vagifem is helping. OK so far. Usually I get UTI just before going on holiday. This weekend is my first trip since starting to use the Vagifem so will put this to the test. I am worrying about it less than I did 6 months ago.

I know what you mean about your brain permanently connected to your bladder.  I thought it might be psychosomatic but then I have a few normal wee days and I know I'm not. I feel awful today. I have been like this for 6 months after a bout of cystitis. I'm desperate to feel ok.  Katejo, how long have you been on vagifem and are you on other hrt.  I think I may have asked you that before.  I daren't even have sex I'm so frightened about cystitis. We just have to try and stay positive Mrs Bennet, but it all seems so bloody unfair.

I don't have to get up in the night so feel really blessed with that one .....this all started for me early December when i had an upset stomach for a couple of days which lead to UTI even though i was careful with hygiene......now i feel a constant niggle in lower abdomen like i need to pee......it isn't like cystitis......if i am busy i can forget about it but as soon as i sit down there it is !!!!!  I feel the need to draw up like when doing a pelvic floor exercise but this just makes feeling worse......all very odd and hard to explain “ a feeling “.   xx

Buy yourself a 'ring' to sit on to relieve the pressure on that whole area.  I think one can source those in mobility shops  ;) so mayB have a look on-line at their catalogues and see where your nearest shop is.

Keep up with the treatment.

A mobility shop will be able to advise; as would a physio..

Yes  to everyone.  It is such a miserable complaint.  I wonder if the advice I was recently given by a consultant gynaecologist would help.  I have been on Vagifem for over 4 years now and, although most of the time, I am fine it is a constant battle to adjust and keep on top of things.  I now use Vagifem every 3 days or every other day depending how I am.  In between she recommended using natural vitamin E oil.  I purchased a pack of disposable vaginal applicators from a well known shopping site and also a bottle of natural Vitamin E oil.  I just draw up a small amount into the syringe and insert.  It is working a treat and is very cheap as you only use a small amount.  I hope this helps someone as it has me.  Also organic cocanut oil is very good but have to warm in the hands first as it is solid when cold.

That's helpful Meadowblue. I have heard about this before but have been a bit wary if it would be safe. How do you know the best vitamin E oil to buy? I know you said natural but lots of stuff says natural. Yes it's hard finding a regime that works. Still trying to get confidence for sex as I am so worried about the after effects.  How are you Mrs. Bennet?

That's a funny story, who knows what other stuff these gynaecologists might find!

Hi Suzysunday thank you gor thinking of me 😘.....not had such a good day today 😔......very niggly ......used 2nd dose of ovestin on Wednesday night so now thinking I'm sensitive to this as well.....should of gone with my gut feeling and maybe just use once a week ......so will leave several days before i dose again.....it really is trial and error as so many of the  ladies have said......still not overly convinced that hormone therapy is going to help me at all 😳 xx

I know, it's really scary when you don't trust what is available. I keep thinking maybe I would do better on vagifem, but then maybe not and I will lose the progress I have made. I had such a bad day yesterday I felt back at square one. I just want consistent good days without thinking about my bladder.

Not been too bad today and yesterday. It's roughly about 50/50 at the moment which is ok. Just have to get over the hurdle of having sex one day, but it's scary to think it might kick everything off again. I will have a look at the book.  It's awful waiting for appointments, hope all goes well.

If your amount of product doesn't seem to be enough to ease symptoms, then put a dose up mid-afternoon and again at night as well as taking an over-the-counter pain relief.  The latter will relax the bladder area.  I have to do so occasionally, good excuse to lay on a warm bath towel with good book whilst the product gets to work  ;)
