Title: Utrogestan again..
Post by: LW44 on February 05, 2019, 08:28:13 PM
Hi

Sorry ive got more questions about utrogestan..  :-\  im now about to take day 6 of the pessary.. been prescribed 14 days at 400mg  due to no period for 6 months and taking oestrogen only whilst being monitored as pogestrone intolerant.. ive just been having 200mg at night.. dont think my body could cope with 400..  anyway ive been okish with it so far.. bit of drop in mood and short tempered.. until today..  ive upped my oestrogen tp 1.5mg a day whilst taking utrogestan to help with low mood and ive got from having hot sweats all day at work  to just one at the end of day today.. when it happened i felt a little anxious.. and this usually passes.. but its stuck with me.. horrible.. trying to distract myself.  But not working.. im now worried that the utrogestan is causing it.. i was an absolute mess with anxiety when i took orally a few years ago.. can it cause this after 5 days?  Also can i cut short the 14 days and will i still have a bleed? Once u stop how many days approx after do u have a period?  Im feeling a bit disappointed as i thought ahh good i can handle this.. im thinking scrape through and do 7 days? Xx

Thank you for your reply stellajane :-) im hoping its just a blip and will pass.  My pessary's are 200mg so cant reduce to 100mg.  Ive just had tonights and got into bed to watch tv and crossing my fingers wake up feeling a bit better.. 6 down 11 to go... x

Yes, it could certainly cause anxiety after 5 days at that level - would only take a day for me! 400mg is an enormous amount, not surprised you can't tolerate that much, but many of us on here can't even tolerate 100mg for 10 days, I'mlucky if I make it to 8.

Sorry to hear you are feeling rough LW44 but I agree with Stellajane - in your circumstances I would take the whole course as prescribed.  You want to make sure you take sufficient in dose and duration for your lining to be shed in view of not having taken progesterone for some time. Sometimes women start a bleed before the end of the course - so best to be prepared! I  always count down the days - mine are in 100 mg doses and I have them by the bed and each night I am pleased when the packet gets smaller!!! Also you might feel a bit rough (pmt symptoms) for a couple of days after stoppping "progesterone withdrawal" but once it has cleared from your system  you should feel better again. Good luck!

It's hard to say as we're all individuals, but in my experience they just keep getting worse till I can't stand it any longer and have to give up. I'm supposed to be doing 10 days on 100mg, currently on Day 6 and I feel so depressed I can't do anything at all; will probably stop after 8 and hope that's enough :(

As the others have said LW44 - it varies with individuals. It also varies with different cycles. Sometimes when I first take it I get the real hit in the first few days then after a while I get used to it - the new exhausted foggy-headed me. Other times I barely notice it until about Day 6 - so just go with it, don't expect anything and deal with each day as it comes!

Keep going  - are you working? If not make sure you have something to occupy yourtself every day to stop thinking about it and the days will soon pass :)

Well i stopped the pessaries after 7 days :-(  i just couldnt cope with side effects.. my whole body felt like it was jittering on the inside..
I have informed consultant.. just waiting for him to get back and see if i can take the 100mg instead of 200mg.. so i stopped 2 days ago.. and feel yuck.. no longer jittery but low  like i can feel it in my chest.. will i hopefully have a bleed soon? How long after do u usually get it? Thank you x

I don't get anything the day after I stop but the day after that lunchtime or late afternoon things get a bit mucky but.... if I remember rightly the first time I used it - there was only a bit of tummy pain like a period and then a huge falling out really heavy not much warning! - probably because there had been a build up of the lining but it has got less each time.

If it is quite bad which it probably will be in your circumstances - don't worry LLW - nothing bad is happening (although you will probably think you are bleeding to death  :-\) they want you to shed the womb lining and that is what is going to happen.

If it's any consolation LW44, I was only on 100mg nightly, and I've had to stop after 7 days too - would be slitting my wrists by now otherwise. I find it usually takes 2 - 3 days of feeling really down and crap after you've stopped taking it, and then the bleeding starts. Fingers crossed for you x

Hi racjen

I've think I've got away lightly this time (probably because I was on a much lower dose than you) - stopped on Thurs after 7 days, Fri and this morning still felt terrible, but by lunchtime today the depression had lifted and I'd started to bleed. Still feel horrendously anxious, but that's so much the norm with me these days I've learnt to cope with it as long as not severely depressed too. Really hope you get some relief soon, and I'd be interested to hear what your consultant has to say about it all x

They should manufacture the Utro packets with motivational messages underneath the capsules like "stick at it" "nearly there" "only one to go" etc.  Like an advent calendar  ;D  Heaven knows many of us need encouragement to complete the course!
I hope you feel well soon, I totally agree with having messages on the packets 😂 my anxiety kicks in around day 2 so it's not great xXx
