Title: Bad skin (acne)
Post by: Countrygirl on January 28, 2019, 03:17:39 PM
I'm really struggling still at the moment, but as the sun has been brave enough today to come out and the sky is blue my thoughts have turned to the warmer weather that will come around in a few months and venturing outside again when I'm having a good day, but I'm so aware that I have acne that has slowly over time gotten worse along with everything else.

I guess I'm really hoping that others may have words of advice for me of things they have tried.  The GP has given me Azalic Acid and told me to use it daily and I have been religiously for over 6 months x

I don't know what that product is, a face wash or to swallow?

As a teen I found a product which was a clear liquid which smelt,  - Clearacil - ? which was used as a face wash on the oilier parts of my face.  Now I notice those parts are flaky  ::)

Getting into the sunshine won't hurt.  10 mins twice a day soaking it up.

Some people find that vinegar as a cleanser helps I think it's about surprising the zits sometimes ;-). Lemon juice, dilute into a cotton wool ball and hold to the spot might help too.

Is it Rosacea? I have this. The acid didn't work for me either but I've found the antibiotic Lymecycline to be effective. You take it once a day for three months then have a break and then restart it if it returns. The other standard antibiotic used is Metrodiazonole but I'm allergic to that one.

Obviously sunshine or cold winds on the face is a no-no and alcohol and spicy food make it worse. I feel for you as it transformed my always clear skin into a raised, red bumpy mess. Try the Lymecycline.

Which one did you try? I've found that it is the only thing that helped with mine. It's only a low dose once a day. Mine made me feel a little sick for the first hour or so and also flared up my IBS slightly but it was worth it to clear the rosacea. At least it doesn't scar like normal acne. I hope you find something. There is a rosacea site/forum.

Hello

Check the active ingredients in your medication, and then you'll start to have an idea if they work for you.

I don't know much about rosacea, but I've suffered hormonal spots for years (one my jawline). Funnily enough they stopped a year, maybe two, ago, as part of the whole perimenopause thing. But I think they'll be back, as I'm on the combined pill now.

Anyway, for me zinc sulphate works a charm. It's in a spray called 'Serozinc', available from Boots. Also salicylic acid works for me. I prefer moisturisers and toners with the active ingredients in them as they're staying on my skin longer.

Check out 'The Ordinary' if you haven't already. A bit of reading and research, but it's worth it.

Good luck x
