Hi everyone, thanks for all who replied to my last post "GP doesn't believe in link between perimenopause and depression". I went back to see her for a review appointment this morning. I told her that I still believed it my mood was hormone related. She said that there is no clinical evidence to back that up and until there is she just won't believe it! She said depression and anxiety is caused by serotonin issues, not hormones. Sigh. Anyway, I did persist and told her my other symptoms. She said they were due to oestrogen but that she wouldnt give me HRT as she thought I didn't need it. She has prescribed topical oestrogen for the dryness (apparently theres some issue with Vagifem at the minute so she is calling me back to prescribe something else). She was not averse to prescribing testosterone for the lack of libido but said we can sort that at the next appointment. She was fairly persistent that the lack of libido is related to dryness and depression, which it can be yes, but I know its more. So I will ask next time about the testosterone. You'll never guess what though, when I told her about the libido, she said that loads of women come in to her about it, that some are delighted to be rid of it, and that I should disable parental controls on my computer and try somewhere called Porn Hub, I kid you not. She also asked if I was someone who read up a lot on menopause and symptoms and I said that yes, I had done my research, and she told me to stop reading! I have to go back and see her in a month. You really couldn't make it up!

Sadly she is the fourth female I have seen at the practise, all saying pretty much the same thing or basis their opinion on blood tests. I might be better off seeing a man!

I wonder what the issue is with Vagifem at the moment? I must try requesting more soon. Just don't know what to say about the rest of her comments. saw a comment recently from someone who had been told not to do any online research until the GP had diagnosed a condition (nothing to do with menopause).

I would send details to Dr Currie and other organisations that are supposedly informing GPs. She sounds like she is living on the Ark :-\. I'll hold her, you hit her :bang: she is so out of date or not open to the truth.
There are issues about medication over-all in the run-up to Brexit. Apparently some diabetics are stock piling - though I can't understand how ...... and when I ordered mine packets 3 weeks early I wasn't queried as usual.

I would have ripped her head off prefixing the first sentance with "with the greatest respect but personally I think you are mistaken because...." and then launched into everything I had learned adding...oh and by the way...with the greatest respect you should read Professor Studd's paper on the link between hormones and depression...he's one of the most eminent consultants on the subject I presume you learnt about it when you were training..."
How old is this women Knockmany? If she is young.ish I can't wait until she gets to the menopause! For once I think you are right a bloke even a stupid one would be better...Porn Hub...indeed!!!

There should be nationwide re-training of GP's on the menopause or failing that a flyer to each one with the heading "stop being a di**h**d" read Menopause Matters!

Urgh...their ignorance drives me insane CKLD...it's not as if the information isn't readily out there. If I knew what I should do or how to get people to listen, I would quite happily become a menopause activist...(either that or a GP Hunter!! - Your's first Knockmany!).
It probably should be the patients CKLD - all change needs to be driven by those with a vested interest. What interest do they have to become better GP's? They wouldn't be so overworked, if they actually listened and provided the right treatment. Not just meno, it just seems a general theme. People go back time and time again just to try to get a sensible answer and they get treated like they are idiots. GPs' need to work out that their patients aren't as stupid as they think they are and there may well be something in what the patient is saying.

Well said Girl, well said. I could be an activist but GPs don't listen to patients so it must come from those that know more than [apparently] we do. Perhaps we need to start a petition and gain 10,000 ? signatures to present to Parliament - would take their minds off Brexit ;)

Thanks all, your replies are brilliant ;D I'm feeling ok about the appointment though as really, I expected nothing different from her. Regarding her age, she is the same age as me, 47! She said I was too young for menopause yet, wherein I told her that my mother was done and dusted with the menopause by 42. The anti depressants have helped with the mood and anxiety so for now I will stick with them. My other symptoms are fairly manageable apart from the annoying sensitive bladder that comes and goes depending on the time of month. Oh and the libido of course but sure I can just go to porn hub with the rest of you all ;D ;D I'm going to make a real effort to exercise more and eat less crap as I know that will help too. I'll be back with her in a month, if she gives me testosterone I think I'll keep her, as not many others here do. Right, off to figure out how to disable the parental controls.....

I wouldn't think so Sparkle but anyway...lucky Knockmany is so easy going!...and the rest of us all have sense of humour ;D That's the least unprofessional thing she had to say....at least it's practical unlike her other hogwash!

I'm joking, this is outrageous, I think I would have asked her if this was in NICE guidelines and if it has worked for her, but then things could have become nasty.
Knockmany, I just hope your next GP is not a male version of her, can you imagine what he would suggest? ;D

My husband suggests that if she gets to have problems with menopause that she can self-medicate. It is outrageous ........ I think that Dh and me will be looking at porn hub in bed later ;) but don't expect a Report ;D

Actually, it's very interesting how the porn universe works, you see, some folks like the 'pissing my panties' stuff. Why on Earth are we worried about stress incontinence? It's sexy!

Nope, not the right size. Mine is 0.19 inches, not big enough for the NHS (0.23 to 0.27).

I too have a clueless gp who says the most stupid things(look back at my posts) as do so many of us.
I wish I could go with you to your doc and show her my psychiatrists letter to my gp where he has stated that he believes my current MH symptoms are directly related to hormone decline/imbalance. A psychiatrist has said that!!!
Please don't put up with this.
The pornhub thing just takes the biscuit.

I have an 80 year old friend who is a "fracking granny". Her views not mine but..
What would we call ourselves? Maybe it's a seperate thread don't want to hyjack this one.
And yes CLKD if I could've been paid for wetting my knicks I'd be a millionaire by now.
Keep posting knock. Hope you have got something from the advice on here. I'm just about to change my GP. Please think about doing the same and wish you well.

Do you mean how will I know if the stone has passed? Pain, CLKD, a lot of pain. If it gets stuck in my ureter, then I have to go to the A&E and I'll get a cocktail of delicious drugs for the excruciating pain. After that I have no idea.

Good luck with the stone Conolly, I'm crossing my legs at the thought of it. Luckily, with regards to the pornhub parental controls, the husband is an IT person so I'm good there, at least I'll make him feel useful about something ;D ;D :-\ I'm sort of looking forward to the next appointment just to see what clangers she comes out with, I'll let you all know!
