Title: Changing from Tibolone to Sandrena and Utrogestan.
Post by: Sooze on December 08, 2018, 07:15:54 PM
After a relatively successful 2yrs on Tibolone I've decided to try Sandrena gel & Uterogestan (in combination with the Testosterone gel).  My gynaecologist thought I might get symptoms that my oestrogen was a bit low once I'd stabilised on the testosterone and that appears to be the case.  Few extra flushes this past month, plus itchy/irritated skin on my neck (yes I know it's odd) and contact lenses not so comfortable (dry eye).

Feeling a bit nervous about changing (the great unknown), and debated whether to start from tonight or wait until the New Year (when I finish my last pack of Tibolone), but hey ho decided to start today, so first dose of Utrogestan tonight and Sandrena in the morning.

I'm hoping the control I have over the 3 components will help me find a balance that works for me. Wish me luck!

Hi Sooze

Sorry to hear your symptoms returned after 2 years on Tibolone - I remember reading how well you were doing on it.

Good luck with the transition to your new regime - there may be a bit of settling in to do but hope it suits you and especially in time for Christmas. When do you start the Testosterone and which type /dose will you be using? Will this be when your oestrogen levels are higher?

Do keep us posted as to how you get on.

Thanks Hurdity,
I've been advised to stick with the current dose of approx 0.1ml twice a week to start. Obviously with stopping the Tibolone I won't be getting any extra testosterone, so my Dr expects that I'll need to increase, but I'll tailor it depending on symptoms.

Took the Uterogesan orally last night (seemed OK), but I'm guessing you can switch between orally and vaginally with no problem - especially as you need to take it on an empty stomach and we may be having late suppers over Xmas?

I was on Tibolone for 3 months, no difference really, so was then changed on to utrogestan orally at night, and sandrena sachet gel in morning.

I was on this regime for 3 months, it really didn't agree with me. I had breakthrough bleeding and my mood was really down. The only up side was that I was sleeping better.

In October I was again changed as this wasn't helping. I was kept on sandrena gel, my progesterone was changed to Northisterone and I was prescribed Tostran, half a pump 3 times a week.

Sleep still ok, no breakthrough bleeding, libido not necessarily hugely better, but 'response' is better. I had been applying Tostran on smooth side of knees, but then reread that I should rub into groin area. I don't t know if it's a coincidence but I appear to have had a return of night sweats, which I never really suffered from and I find this really uncomfortable.

Do you think I need to up my sandrena? Or should I return to applying Tostran to inside knee area? Hair has also become more greasy since I moved the application area.

Any advice/experience welcome.

Assumpta,
I'm guessing you are post meno?  With Tibolone you can I have some spotting during the first 6m, in fact I think that's the case with all HRT.  I didn't but I did have odd side effects that didn't settle until 4-5 months though, although the flushes went really quickly for me.

My GP has said you should give any regime at least 6m before changing anything, as it can take that long to settle down.  If you've not been on testosterone before I'd defiantly give it 6m, not sure if the night sweats could be due to too much testosterone?  Possibly greasy hair also due to too much testosterone?

I think I've read that you're better getting your oestrogen & progesterone settled before adding in Testosterone - but I may be mistaken (I'm sure someone will chip in on this)

Just a few thoughts (slightly random, sorry)
