Title: Plucking several hairs each morning. Testosterone?
Post by: EnglishRose on November 25, 2018, 02:36:04 PM
Since I was in my mid twenties I've had a few hairs on my chin, but these days especially very recently I'm plucking between 4 and 7 wirey hairs from my chin, upper lips and a few even on my cheeks

They're blonde so can't be removed permanently.

But if I didn't pluck them I am guessing I would have quite an obvious beard.

I'm assuming this is testosterone?

Why?  I've been plucking my chin and upper lip for years++ - maybe see my thread 'My Chin!' ?

Welcome to the club!
This is another area of my expertise- LOL
Like you i started with a few plucks here and there in my 20's carried on.  Had a bit of lazer in my early 30's - didn't really work'. Hit my 40's and spotted a few , no a LOT more sprouting chin, nose (aarrrgg), lip, cheek.
I thought right, time to get serious so after many years of research and dithering i decided on electrolysis. When i started treatment i had to stop plucking and could only shave ( nice), to my horror i found those ‘few' hairs were more like 150+ 🦁- what a shock. 3 yrs in it is sooooo much better. It has taken so long because of all the plucking i'd done and made them nice, strong and wiry.
My advice don't pluck and start electrolysis right away. Yes ,it involves a huge commitment and some costs, but it is the only way to permanently rid. I also now find that any new irritant i get, she blasts it maybe x2 and gone forever, because I hadn't plucked it it never became strong. Good luck , feel free to ask anything about electrolysis.
Forgot to say- had loads of bloods done over the years and all normal, no high testosterone- just the way i was made

Fortunately none of my hairs have got thicker due to using tweezers or creams.

Hello  Roseenglish.

I have noticed more hairs on my chin as I've gone through the menopause and although I'm fair skinned some of them were black!

I've never taken testosterone but I was on Tibolone for almost a year and that has androgenic effects. During that time I noticed that my underarm hair became thicker and longer, even a bit wavy lol. All in all much more lush than it had ever been before. Now I am using  Oestrogel and Utrogestan it has returned to normal so I would say that testosterone is likely the cause of your chin hairs. Oh the joys eh!

Wishing you well.

K.

It could just be an age thing. I had this in my 50s before I used testosterone.

Yep. I'm not on testosterone but have to pluck my chin and under my jawline every other day. Over twenty of them. They are worse when I am on HRT. I'm 64. I also get nipple/aerola hairs too. Hate them with a vengeance.

gawd, this is a very relevant subject  - I will never understand this - it can't be to do with testosterone? - pluck my chin every day and have ugly, thick black hairs that grow *overnight* - blood tests show T as more or less undetectable - somehow even miniscule amounts of T converts to DHT.

Along with all the other ghastly (post) meno symptoms, the chin/lip hair is right up there with deflated spaniel ears breasts, loss of curvy derriere/hips -  for destroying one's feeling of femininity.  What happens when eyesight gets too bad for plucking?  I'm constantly running fingers over chin to check for new sproutings.

The black hairs are also worse when on HRT.  Somehow a hormone is converting to T but *not* in a good way, ie. allowing me to be brave / drive on motorways alongside juggernauts etc.

Couldn't help noticing the check-out woman in supermarket had a thick (unplucked) beard - which is what mine would be like if I left Mother Nature to work her nasty magic ...

It must be indicative of hormones that are way out of balance ...

It's The Change.  An upheaval of hormones but I have always had a thick, black upper lip.  Worse at certain times of the month.  I HATED it.  I used creams for years then as the hairs began to fade  :bounce:  I reverted to tweezers.  Very satisfying  :D.  A gentle whoosh as the hair is pulled away from the area

Hairy legs.  Black and thick.  Too lazy to do much about those.  I would never discuss pubes with friends  :o

Just to clarify I'm not using testosterone I just always assumed facial hair was due to androgens (testosterone)

Oh , Yeo nipples too... recently

At this rate I'll be booking myself in for a “back crack and sack wax”  😳

I doesn't help that my eyesight is going and they're blonde ...

Every time I'm plucking them I think back to the movie “Thers something about Mary” were a scene shows Marys grotesque middle aged neighbour plucking her chin hair ...I laughed so hard when I saw that movie (in my 20s)
Now, not so much...

Harnaam Kaur from the UK is one such activist. After being diagnosed with PCOS she allowed her facial hair to do its thing and became a viral sensation with almost 80 000 followers on Instagram.

Found it, the wonders of 'google'  ::) - however, I couldn't.  I really couldn't  :'(
