Hi all
I am 46 and have always had regular periods. About 18 months ago things started to go a bit off piste, sometimes 2 weeks between them, sometimes 6, sometimes very heavy, sometimes very light. Now I have had nothing for 8 weeks BUT all this week I feel like I am having a period, there is just no bleeding. I have all the other symptoms; spots, greasy skin, low mood, clumsiness, bloated tummy and perhaps strangest of all period pains. It's very odd. It would be reassuring to know if anyone else out there has had similar symptoms.
Thanks :)

Hiyer,
Me!
I currently have everything you describe except the period pains, but then I've never had period pains in my life at 'normal' times. I am however getting the griping bowel feeling I used to get a the start of a period. I'm 50 and now heading to 60 days without a period, and would honestly say that for the last two weeks I've been convinced every day that my period is about the start/is starting! All my past 'clues' to the period coming have been there; mood fluctating between crying despair and coping, forgetting things, spots, water retention. I can't provide huge amounts of experience on this, as its the first time in my life of it happening too. I've had a few years in peri-meno, the last 12 months have been the most erratic- 18 day cycles and 40 day cycles. Prior to that I had 4-5 years of very heavy periods and shorter cycles. I know there are loads of people on here who have had similar to what you are describing, as I've read their experiences on these boards during my time here....and I'm sure some will be along shortly. Just thought I'd reply and let you know you aren't alone!

Phew - thank you. That is so reassuring! :)

I'll be honest, there have been times over hte last few weeks where I've even thought that I must be bleeding and its 'stuck' and not coming out ! :-\

Thanks all, it's really reassuring to hear that other people have the same symptoms. I can stop worrying now :)

I'm still here 'waiting' with my silent period..... :D
I have even been getting the night sweats the night before (like I started having a few years ago when peri started) and the constant crying the day before. Ta da.....next morning.....nothing......
Its the oddest thing, as if your body wants to do something, kind of remembers how to and then can't do it.

Yes it's quite common part of peri albeit confusing
Pms with no period period with no pms period with pms no period for weeks or months two periods back to back heavy flow, light flow,...all down to the fluctuation of hormones as our ovaries malfunctioning

I've never checked the gusset of my pants as much as in the last decade.

So, my phantom period has now become a period on day 56.
Looking back OddPomme......I had the same on day 29, a period that felt like it was happening but nowt. So, it might or might not turn into one for you now....it might disappear and return to properly be a period later on. :-\

You are all wonderful; hearing that so many of you are going through the same thing is genuinely a relief. Your sense of humour is also uplifting (why is the word gusset so funny?!!). Day 46 and my period did eventually start. Who knows what will happen next?! Hang on in there ladies, we will get through this.

Just to add more reassurance for you I have had exactly the same, and in the last year, although I have had no period since February, I have had two bouts of PMT like symptoms in April and June which did make me think I was about to start bleeding.I am hoping to finally make it to February as I am a ripe old age, but certainly PMT but no period has happened to me over the years, including some episodes that were so severe that I thought it would start any moment but then the feelings faded overnight.I have also heard ladies say the same who have had maybe a spot or two of bleeding with the PMT but then nothing more for several more weeks until the feelings built again. I have several friends who say their last period ever was PMT and only a spot of pink or 1/2 day bleeding.
