Has anyone else lost their ability to focus on reading since menopause/perimenopause? Having always been an avid reader I have found over the last few years Ive been unable to lose myself in a good book..I see lots of books I would like to read but I find I cant concentrate long enough to get really drawn into the story. I miss it as it was something I used to love. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes this happened to me when I became peri menopausal, and I've always been a big reader. The ability came back once I got my hrt sorted out x

Yes I have had this in the past about 3 years. I am still reading but nowhere near as much. It does seem to be an issue of concentrating enough to really get into the book. I hadn't attributed it to meno so that is an interesting idea. I had thought that it was too much to do with browsing the internet too much. Despite all the research resources available online, I am glad that I finished my full time student years pre internet. I wonder whether HRT might help.
That said I have got into the new book on benefits of HRT which I have already mentioned on MM. I am finding it a really worthwhile read.

I have days where I say to my husband "I can't see" - what I mean is that everything is not being processed in my brain properly - it is all woolly and so is my eyesight - things just don't look crisp and I then struggle with the computer reading and sometimes distance when I am in the supermarket. Concentration and clear thinking can be a major problem in menopause. This type of thing is quite common... unfortunately!!

I have to be feeling good within myself to read a book, no other distraction in my life so I can totally immerse myself. This is why I probably only manage to finish a book on holiday.

Cheers Sparkle - sometimes I write things and read them back and think - "heaven's to Betsey - how is anyone ever going to understand that!" Glad someone gets it, otherwise I would be in an out of the optician every other week - but its not my eyes that are the problem! Is it the same for you too?
