Title: Mirena coil query
Post by: jorainbow on October 20, 2018, 07:48:15 AM
Out of curiosity how would you know if you are post menopausal if you have a mirena coil fitted? I have friend who was told she would need it until that time by her dr. Thanks

Hi Jorainbow

I have a Mirena coil and my GP told me all they can do is presume. A blood test showed I had an FSH level of 70 and they said because it was so high I was probably post menopause but couldn't be 100% positive. I didn't have a period for 4 years. I've recently had a new one fitted and haven't had any bleeding with this one.
Sorry I can't give you  a definite answer x

Thanks and not to worry that helps! I was sterilised 20 years ago so contraception not an issue  in my meno journey but just something I've been asked in conversations
