Title: Me & My Menopausal Vagina. Has WON an award.
Post by: Maryjane on October 18, 2018, 04:14:28 PM
As title up against other menopause books, absolutely amazed. Last week a women's health physio messaged me saying she had voted for me, and from there it gained a following of voters.

Apparently it will be in the press, there where other winners also in different categories.

Very proud self published, no idea how to do this started writing in April, announced in September won best book October very proud.

If I have my way this part of menopause ( vaginal atrophy) will not get brushed under the carpet anymore.

Also it's been mentioned on mumsnet so word is spreading.

It's called “ The Spotlight Awards “ live better with menopause are the sponsors. My book was called informative and life changing. 😊👍

Thank you ladies very kind. I even have a book signing to do 🤣.

It would seem from the emails I am getting and feed back from medical peeps this is long overdue, vaginal atrophy has always been the ugly sister of menopause where the medics don't even discuss it properly or even know what to do, poor treatment etc etc.

So when finished perhaps gine to your GPs surgery with a request they read it. I know of some GPs who have been given copies.

I have done quite a few videos over the last few days as well with different professionals, one a women's health physio yesterday that I think will be a really good watch when it's put out in Utube land . 😊💐

I know some will think this is so odd and personal, but I have 3 daughters and this side of menopause needs airing.

My earlier message failed to save for some reason. I started reading it on the way home. Based on the 3 chapters read so far, I  may suggest it to my practice. Congratulations Maryjane

Brilliant, you are an inspiration!!!

Just being nosey but when you do the self publishing, do you have to pay out upfront or is it part of Amazon's service?

Congratulations and hope you win many more awards.

No we aren't doing it via amazon print on demand.

We have an independent printers and we printed x amount up front, it's then sold via my sight and amozon.

The printers are the distributors on the amazon side. We set up our own publishing name ( free) sinthat way we have control over the book.

I to have passed copies on to two relations who are in groups. One who is a member of a Book Club and the other a Stitch and Bitch group. Also mentioning the book wherever i can.

Feel sure as a forum here if we so wish we can play a part and help to get this book out there in some way or another.

I only wish i could have read this book in my forties. I sort of knew about impending menopause but had no idea whatsoever that my vagina would be affected in the way it has.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Thankyou Gangan and CLKD I feel quite 😏 about it all TBH. SO many over the years have gone on and on about VA and no one understands or talks about it, yet TBH the support from those that “ know “ me is quite frankly 😏. Equally a core of ladies have been FAB.

Now are ladies thinking who the hell does she think she is ? Is it going to make her rich ?

Firstly I was fed up of all the inadequate information on this subject I thought why not, I'm not shy about such things I have 3 daughters and decided I wanted this side of menopause to not be so taboo.

Make me rich NO need to sell a vast vast amount and it's cost us thousands to do this so a lot of money needs recouping.

Also I haven't invented my VA to do this book, I have been on here years.

But yes quite honestly I feel I am “ flogging a dead horse” but that's ok perhaps ladies want the status quo to remain.

I have just bought a book called “ estrogen matters” excellent written by a US breast cancer specialist, and a passage in his book says nearly a 100% of all women will get VA.

But again thankyou for your support in spreading the word, but I have realised I need lots of money, to be famous and have a mega PR team behind me.

Am I proud the books been written yes, would I do it again yes, but I will be totally honest I over estimated the support I had hoped for in helping spread the word. 30 emails sent out to papers etc and they just don't reply bar two, plus many FB groups.

💐👵🏻😊

It's like flogging a dead horse sometimes and advertising even in local papers is expensive.  In the 1990s I tried to advertise some charity work I was planning but even if I saw it as my contribution to the Charity it was prohibitively costly.  I will push the book and knowledge forwards.  What happens when you need a re-print?

How do you feel?  Exhausted or elated ?  Not an anti-climax hopefully.   :foryou:

Maybe charge for your talks?  WI; University  :-\ for retired people can't remember the title of the groups  ::); Open University?  Church Goups?

Have you looked at publishing it via Kindle Unlimited? The cost to the reader is £0.00 as they have to join KU and pay £7.99 per month but think you then get paid by the amount of times the book is downloaded?

I have found that since social media took off for business promotion that my marketing has really struggled. I used to get many clients from the old Yellow Pages but once it became so small you could barely read the print, most don't use it anymore. Obviously this was because social media marketing took over but I find you just get lost amongst the thousands of others promoting their businesses (or themselves!), where prior to this my webpage managed to bring in business alone.

One of my colleagues is also a TV gardening personality and he said that Facebook ads are currently the most successful tool, by far. Not paying to promote your page but those ads that pop up when you're scrolling through the news feed. This makes sense as I have made 2 purchases based on those but never through following anyone's FB business pages.

Hope that helps as I know how frustrating it is trying to be heard in a world where everyone and their dog (literally!) are trying to promote themselves.

That's ridiculous, so context doesn't count as the robots see that as an offensive word?!! Another reason to hate social media marketing. You could have a second cover for these platforms using your sub title “Living with VA”. Not as catchy but those who know what VA is will know and those who don't will be tempted to look it up.

Congratulations!!

But Maryanne, can you tell me what the ending of the book is (I'll buy it anyway) since I'm desperate right this minute to know how you cured yourself. Did you get better with HRT and Ovestin?

Please help - as I'm in a lot of chronic pain and have been for years. Would appreciate it greatly. Due to go to the doc to ask for Ovestin as I've only just found out about it from this forum.

And again, well done!!

I'm not cured but managed as it says in the book, local oestrogen, HRT, I've had laser treatment, women's health physio.

I always say don't assume it's VA always get checked for lichen sclerosus and any other skin conditions also, we can have LS & VA at the same time.

Gangan that's a good idea re a PDF thingy will think of something, I'm not allowed to mention the name of my web page on here as advertising.

But can spread word via other social media platforms and see if others are up for it. 😊

Thank you CLKD 💐 we have our first book shop who are going to stock it🤗 small steps etc.

My GP is taking it to her book club. We now have 32 reviews on amazon 31 5stars and one 3star. So pretty good in two months.

I also know of ladies who have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosus assuming they had thrush. A lady messaged me yesterday saying for every 100 doors you knock on oneau open, it's a numbers gain.

Problem is it take energy that somedays I'm really lacking.😊

Eleanore B it's FB and called vaginal atrophy, not everyone can find it for some reason.

If you can't mesage me here & I will help via my email.

BTW it does say in the book  but my daughter Penny wrote it, I gave her all the information & told her the style I wanted it in.

Anyone who has read my posts over the year will see I'm simply not up to writing standard.

Hi MaryJane,

Thanks for the group info, will search for it.

How brilliant that you and your daughter could collaborate like that. Congrats to both of you, what a fantastic achievement.

Just read some of the other posts in this thread and realised you have issues with publicity. My gynaecologist is lovely and a big cheese in a large London hospital. Anyway, when I next see her I will give her a copy and tell her it's great and if any of her patients are struggling to recommend it. Others could also tell their gynaecologist if they see one. She told me that often, shockingly, by the time women see her their vagina is in a terribly painful state as they haven't been given the help they need. Word will spread - word of mouth is a powerful thing, just takes time to build.

Has anyone suggested contacting woman's hour on the back of getting the award?
