Good morning!
I have been on Utrogestan 100 once a day and Oestrogel x 2 pumps continuously for the past 5 months. So far I had no side effects, apart some initial grogginess with Utrogestan, and sore breasts in the last month. The benefits, however, were phenomenal, back to my usual self within a month. A few days ago I missed a couple of doses of Utrogestan (actually missed one and was late on the second), and then started again. I have now a slow, continuous and painful bleeding/ spotting. Is it something that I need to check or would that just be the result of missing a dose/s? Or would it be best to give Utrogestan a proper break for a few days until the bleeding stop?

Not sure what to advice. Utrogestan isn't as powerful as other progesterones, so some break through bleeding often happens in a conti regime. Many take a break from Utrogestan for 2-3 days each month which will allow for a bleed(shedding of the womb) in case the lining has built up - so maybe this bit if bleeding is a good thing?
If you look under Progesterones in the TREATMENT section on this site, it does give the recommended conti regime and this include a 2-3 day break - There is no explanation as to why this is recommended?? - so most women just take it everyday. I suspect this 2-3 day break is a precautionary measure to ensure the womb lining doesn't build up.
If I were you I'd simply continue but if the bleeding doesn't stop then get this checked out.

I'm finding the Utrogestan quite frustrating. Until this month, I was taking 100mg every night for about 10 days a month (couldn't take any longer), but would start bleeding after 4 days. Last month I didn't get a bleed, and a scan showed a 7mm uterus lining with possible adenomyosis - so off to the gynae I'm going on the 31st of this month.
Anyway, I decided to bite the bullet, and force myself to take the 200mg for 12 to 14 days, as per the licensed dosage. Apart from dry nether regions (for which I'm using vagifem daily), and hot flushes (minus anxiety / panic) within a half hour of taking it, and roasting at night, I'm actually feeling quite well on it, although the increase in oestrogen might also have something to do with it.
My problem is, 10 days in, and I've flipping started bleeding! A proper period, too!!
Does anyone else have this happening?
My last blood test before starting this, showed very decreased oestrogen level, with super high fsh levels and they couldn't even get a progesterone reading, so very definitely post meno!!
I just find it soooo annoying, and I don't know whether to stop taking it now I'm bleeding, or continue for the full 14 days - I've been getting bleeding like this on all the progestogens I've trialled - Femoston, norethisterone, and Utrogestan...so annoying!!

Northarm - the erratic bleeding is what I experienced with utrogestan and I got nasty cramps with it as well.
I had a Mirena for 4 years in post meno with Oestrogel and found this a far better regime - after the first few weeks I didn't get bleeding just very occasionally a bit of spotting. In hindsight, I wish I had had another Mirena fitted as I probably wouldn't have given up on HRT. I thought Utrogestan would be a better and safer option as I was then nearly 60 but it gave me far more side effects than any other progesterone.
I expect you started bleeding a bit early because you have a bit of thickening of the womb lining. You may find if you stick to the 200mg for 12 days per month this may well settle things after a 2-3 months. DG x
