Pregnenolone I think is used for increasing energy, preventing Alzheimer's disease, helping with memory and stress and improving body's ability for immunity.
Sometimes it is used for handling meno symptoms and for slowing aging process. The body uses it to make other hormones.
In my country it is not officially approved for using as hrt in meno. I think that it is widely used in USA.

Is it a supplement or a drug?

Pregnenolone is a precursor to most of our steroid hormones and manufactured from cholesterol in the body. It appears to be used as a supplement and a drug but not in this country. Here are the results of an NHS evidence search: https://www.evidence.nhs.uk/search?q=Pregnenolone
Wikipedia has basic information about the steroid and another section about its use as medication ( not here!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnenolone , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnenolone_(medication)
I couldn't find any proper studies into pregnenolone and menopause on a first look at google (although haven't looked extensively) although there are sites trying to sell it!
