Get the sleeping tablets or valium in case. What you anxious about?
Sleep downstairs where it's cooler? Hot air rises ........ our room was stuffy last night so we stayed in the cool kitchen until very late.
Do not resort to ice drinks/lollies whilst abroad as they may harbour bacteria! Boil all water and allow to cool, Thermos flasks are good if it's possible to transport those or buy on arrival and leave there. Keep hydrated. Eat little and often. I really struggle in this heat as I burn off energy, often waking in the early hours feeling dreadful :-\
Off to get a banana then review what is required for lunch.

like it says dont lay awake worrying about going to sleep which i do when im not in my own bed cant seem to relax as much as when in my own bed i no its silly really.

It's nit silly as it's real to you
Have you tried Phenergan ? They're antihistamines but great for ensuring a nights slasp, I used to take them the night before work as I'd struggle to sleep. You'd have to say at pharmacy they're for allergies (not sleep) they're harmless but blimming great for when you want a good nights sleep x

thankyou ill have to have a look for them.

I feel your pain re lack of sleep.... I am just taking one day at a time....
I don't have any advice sorry but wanted to say that I hope things improve for you and I am consoling myself with the fact that at least I can have a lie in whilst away to try and catch up on those missed precious hours of sleep...
Best wishes.

I have found in recent weeks that reading with a sheet over me helps me relax. Then I drop off - last night I woke twice for a bathroom visit. Thought I wouldn't get back but did.

Another product worth considering is Melatonin. Great for a natural night's sleep. Best to buy online.

If you're on holiday won't you be more relaxed and sleep better? Most people sleep badly the first night in an unfamiliar place. Perhaps if you remind yourself of that and accept the 1st night might be hard, that might help with the rest of the nights. We went to Greece recently and were very happy to see our room had a ceiling fan. If you don't have a fan or air con where you're staying, maybe take a portable fan with you?
I also find that sleeping with ear plugs in an unfamiliar place helps me sleep better.

I feel your pain, Bladebabe, I'm exactly the same. We're going away in for 2 weeks this year instead of the usual one week and I'm dreading the thought of 2 weeks of bad sleep!
Anti-histamines that make you drowsy are a good choice. I usually have one close to hand on the bedside table so I know that if I'm still not sleeping hours after going to bed, at least that will give me a few hours so I can function the next day.
I saw something on telly not that long ago, saying that most people don't sleep so well in a strange bed as they do in their normal one. Something to do with our fight or flight reactions?
Sounds silly, but I'm honestly thinking of packing my clock when I go away, as I spend most of my sleepless nights wondering what the time is. Watch is too small to read in the dark and the light on my phone would disturb OH if I used that to check the time.

I usually have a clock by the bed and often wake, thinking it's later than it turns out to be >:(
My dog always slept close by me on the first night away. One time the bed was so high from the ground :o that she needed two chairs in order to make her way to find me. After that she slept on her bean bag ........
I take crossword books etc. for nights I can't sleep. Even in beds that I am familiar with ::) and in recent months as we are between several properties [long story short], I wake wondering which room I'm in :D
