Has anyone else noticed an improvement with their atrophy since having all this sunshine the last few weeks? I have always been a lot better when on holiday abroad in the sun, but assumed this was due to not working and sitting for hours. Apparently there are links with improved atrophy and vit D, anyone any information please?

Interesting query.
Are you not using HRT for the atrophy? Sunshine made no difference to mine, it was like razor blades up there :o.
12 months ago I was OH so tired - blood test showed low VitD levels, capsules sorted that.

Yes I'm on Vagifem daily, Ovestin nightly and use Yes moisturiser. I'm only 100% comfortable usually when on holiday but I've been fine at work these last couple of weeks since getting lots of sun and probably vitamin D.

I don't know the answer to this but why not. This is the first summer for years that I have not had puffy ankles. The only change I can think of is that I now take a multi vitamin. Which of the vitamins that might be helping I have no idea.
Sometimes the most unexpected things help. :)

I've also searched on Google and there are links to a study on postmenopausal women with atrophy and vitamin D suppositories that showed as making an improvement, so maybe the sunshine is helping. It will be interesting if when the heatwave ends to see if it makes any difference.

What changes have you made to your clothing?

Vitamin D is very vital for all sorts of things - immune system, bone density, fatigue, aches and and pains all improve when our Vitamin D levels are right. I also think that when we are on holiday we are more relaxed so everything will seem better.
As CKLD has rightly pointed out - what we wear can have a big influence! On holiday in a hot climate we tend to wear loose clothing and possibly swim in the sea and these things might well help the situation. I do think stress has a big influence on our ‘lady bits' - if we are busy and stressed then we are more likely to be ‘clenching' down below. If you have a job that involves sitting at a desk then this will certainly not help atrophy.
I doubt that vitamin D alone would solve urogenital atrophy. it's simply one aspect of a whole range of things that will help improve things generally. DG x

My daughter found living in a hot climate sorted her eczema in spite of multiple showers per day. She said she didn't need moisturiser either. I think skin works better in hot weather with loose clothing.

Life in general seems better when the sky is blue and sunny, it just makes you want to get up in the morning and do things. I'm adding this to my range of things to help my atrophy and when it's cloudy there's always multi vitamins with vit D and have more holidays :)

We have a holiday thread ...... where's your first choice?
Eczema can be relieved when a person is less stressed too ......... what's not to like ;)

Lanzarote, I go there quite a lot as I have family living there. Yes stress defininately makes things worse but it's hard sometimes to avoid it. I'm going in August again, I'll have to join the holiday thread.

Let us know about your holidays :)

Just an update on this thread from the summer. The summer has ended and so has the sunshine and by coincidence my atrophy these last couple of weeks has not been good. There have been other factors that could have caused the decline but nothing much different than what was happening during the hot summer months and I still did not suffer a decline then. I still think the constant sunshine and the vitamin D it provided this summer has helped my VA and I'm now starting taking vitamins again with this included. I've read vitamin D is a pro hormone, don't quite understand all this but I think it plays a bigger part in our hormones than we think.

Deidre - vitamin D is vital to help absorb calcium and it supports the immune system and many other things.
It could be worth having your vitamin d levels checked by the GP but it is generally recommended that if you aren't getting enough sunshine every day and eating enough foods with vitamin d, then supplements are a good idea.
How much Bit D would effect your VA I'm not sure. Systemic and local oestrogen plus intimate moisturisers are still the best way to keep the lady bits healthy. DG x

I am having problems again too. You would think we would have stored up more than enough vitD after such a summer.

I've started vitamins again last week and have noticed an improvement today and I made the most of the sun on Saturday. I know the sun won't replace oestrogen but everything helps and we need all the help we can get.
