Just heard that my son's wife has just given birth to a little boy. All are doing well. You may remember that last year they had to make the agonising decision to abort their baby after the 20 month scan and further tests showed that he had severe hydrocephalus and downs and was unlikely to survive. So this little one is even more precious if that is possible.

Congratulations ju ju xx

A massive congratulations juju. :congrats:
How lovely, a little boy to cherish.
You all must be made up.
And after the terrible year you've had, what great news.

7lbs and it's difficult to see his hair colour in photos. I'm hoping for a red head like his daddy. His big sister is thrilled so far! (3 next month) I think he looks like his daddy. So much relief and joy!

Oh dear, my poor son and DIL. The baby has been unable to feed without vomiting and hasn't pooed since last night. My son and his wife are both in the medical profession, so after a phone discussion with a paediatrician, they drove the baby to the main hospital in the state an hour away. It was a good call as he has an abdominal obstruction, as apparently it hadn't formed very well, requiring an operation. They were told that this isn't that unusual and they do the op quite often. Had they just gone to the local ER, they would have been passed from pillar to post eventually ending up at the hospital they have gone to. Meanwhile the baby would have become very sick. Sometimes it is very difficult being so far away.
Yesterday, they spent 3 hours in the local ER as their 2 year old had tripped on some steps and had to be stitched or rather glued. They are having a very difficult time. Here's hoping the baby comes through this ok.

That's such a shame juju I hope all goes well for them xx
-
Same here juju
Hope they both make a good recovery.
It is a stressful time.
I'm sure their baby will be fine , especially as they've said
it's not uncommon.
Thinking of you,
Jd xx

That's awful ju ju,I hope everything turns out ok for you all.sending hugs

He's currently having the op. 2-4hours. Ladds Procedure. I've been reading up on it. Gt Ormond Street websire explains. Something called malrotation and volvolus. My son had volvulus a few years back. It doesn't always cause a problem, so maybe a genetic connection. Thank goodness they know what to do, because he would have died in a lot of pain. Poor little thing. He's been sleeping well before and initially fed well (not like big sister!)but not in the last few days.
-
It never seems to end Ju Ju! but I believe that this condition is 'common'.
Let us know how both kiddies get on!
-
Op a success. Thank goodness.
-
:bighug: That's great news juju.
Must be a great relief.
Sending you hugs,
Jd xx

My son has sent a photo of him in a incubator with the usual tubes. Poor little mite. He'll be in hospital for a week or two. My GD will be looked after by my DILs parents, who will also turns at the hospital with the baby, so she will get Mummy and Daddy time.
-
So pleased to hear everything went well.
Sending good wishes for a speedy recovery and love to you all.

Thank goodness for that juju it'll be a weight off everyone.great news xx

I think my son and DIL will have a different attitude to dirty nappies forever more! Our little GS has done a big poo in his nappy and feeding DIL's expressed milk from a bottle! Yeh! This is what they have been waiting for. He has recovered well with the only set back being the need for ABs. They hold back from automatically giving them as they can upset the balance of things in the bowel, but there were signs of infection around the op wound. Home soon we hope.
-
Fingers crossed

He's home and doing well. Only an ounce heavier than his birth weight, but then he's been on a diet! And we think he's going to be a red head like his daddy. :)
-
That's really good news they must be over the moon to have him home.
Does he have a name yet ?

:) He's a beautiful looking baby. They've been given the go ahead for coming over here in October. The surgeon said that if there was any problem, they have just as much expertise over here.

How lovely JuJu.

I've met my beautiful, healthy and happy grandson! Now 4 months old. I spent most of yesterday morning holding him and having deep and meaningful chats with him! He has the most wonderful chuckle! Meanwhile my granddaughter, normally very noisy at home, wouldn't talk to me! Plenty of pointing and gestures, despite talking on FaceTime. My son reckons the chat and noise will recommence by today! She's had fun playing with her dads old toys. She adores her little brother, who laughs through all the cuddling and kissing he gets! He has a neat, but big scar on his tummy. Hopefully this will be less prominent as he grows.
-
Wonderful news - congratulations 💕💕💕
-
How lovely :-*
-
So pleased to hear that you met your new grandson and all is well. Enjoy the time you have with him, and the rest of the family. I'm sure your granddaughter will soon be back to her normal noisy chatty self she sounds like a lovely big sister.
How long are they here for ?

How has the visit been over-all Ju Ju?
-
Lovely visit. I have never met such a happy baby! Except when he's hungry, tired etc. You get eye contact and he smiles, even on FaceTime now! He even likes my singing! My little granddaughter became more and more relaxed and we played and chatted. My son and DIL want me to go and stay on my own early next year. Bit afraid of travelling on my own in case I'm not well.
-
Get C.mas and New Year over and then decide ;)
-
So pleased to hear the visit went well and your grandson is well.
At the moment you have enough to think about with your parents so as CLKD says I would wait until the New Year before making any decision about the visit it would be lovely if you go.

Also one wouldn't want to book and have the flights cancelled due to snow here ;)
-
I will be booking very soon. The fares have gone up by £50 already since the beginning of the week! I have travel insurance re weather issues. I have to go at certain dates in order to make use of my sons shift pattern. He has 5 clear days every 6 weeks. My son wants to collect me and take me back to Boston. It's a 2 hour drive.
-
Through the snow?
-
;D they are set up for it, though it doesn't mean they don't have snow days when there is a blizzard/storm. The route from Boston is mainly on the I 95, which is cleared of snow. Years back we stayed in Portland Maine. They had mini snowploughs just to clear the pavements. All set up for it. Last year, they had to transport snow out of their town! And my son has to go out in this as a paramedic. They have had to dig their way to I'll peoples houses. But they do get blue skies after the storms, even if it is soo cold. I will be taking my woolies!
-
Booked my ticket!
-
Packed yet ;D. Check your passport ;-)
-
Oh yes! I feel very brave! Daft, when I've done the journey so often, but always with DH. Lots of time with my son and the children. My son and DIL are excited that I'm going.
-
As I dropped off to sleep I thought "how brave" ......... do it whilst you are able to!!
-
That's lovely news I'm sure you'll have a great time.
