Title: Do I wait for gp appointment,or go for specialist asap?
Post by: Lisa1966 on May 26, 2018, 05:19:02 PM
Hi ladies,it's me again, sorry if I'm boring you rigid,in fact I'm boring myself rigid.im fed up with being in limbo, neither here nor there,as I said I think I have cyclical depression and anxiety, but don't feel particularly well most of the time.i don't know the best way to proceed,my gp appointment is on the 12th June, but I don't think she is going to give me what I need,eg high estrogen dose to override cycle and possibly testosterone,if that is needed.i can see a lady in London as soon as I like, although I haven't heard of her,I have spoken with her and she seems really nice.she said she would be happy to see me.so do I wait and see what gp says or pay and go to London, which by the way makes me very anxious because of the journey.any advice please.

Is there any specialist nearer to you?

Hi Lisa 12th of June can seem like eternity if your anxious.put the ladies name in the search box and see if anyone else can give you feed back,it's highly unlikely your gp will prescribe testosterone as it's unlicenced in U.K. for females now.It has to be a consultant as far as I'm aware. If your suffering bad from anxiety over this then I'd say spend your money wisely and find someone reputable,do a search on here there's recommendations on a variety of meno specialists here.x

Hello Lisa1966.

Please don't apologise, you are not boring us! I understand about boring yourself though because I do that all the time. I often get very frustrated because my symptoms seem to be stuck on repeat and any improvement is short lived.

I saw someone privately a few months ago and I have another appointment soon,  I also see my GP so perhaps you can also see both.

I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful but I completely sympathise, it's an exhausting battle but hopefully we'll get there in the end.

Wishing you well and take care.

K.

Dotty I don't seem to be able to find any that r closer to me.

Daisydot I know what ur saying, but the likes of proff studd r out of my league I'm afraid.louise newson has no appointments for 3-4 months, and I could possibly have murdered someone by then lol 😂. I put her name in the search bar and nothing came up.her name is Theodora Kalentzi.

         Thank you

Where do you live?

Check that whoever you see is prepared to prescribe what you want.

Hello Lisa1966.

I am the same. I'm forever planning something new or putting my faith in another approach but any time I feel better, ie yesterday, it's followed by a day when I am back to square one, ie today. I never did like rollercoasters and this one is exhausting.

I hope you can take some comfort from knowing that you are not alone in your suffering or your frustration.

Wishing you well and sending big hugs.

K.

Yes I understand about the financial sides it's not fair.I just did a search on her and she uses the holistic approach.it looks like she'll also request blood tests for you so bear this in mind when your calculating finances.
I use Mr Tony Parsons at Nuffield Hospital Coventry area about an hours drive from me and he's a lovely man very very approachable and calming.I completely trust him.
If I was you I would try and persevere until the 12th and then discuss the possibility of a referral to a meno clinic or specialist but to be honest with you they seem to be very few and far between and it took 6 months for my nhs appointment to come through and I'm pretty close to London.thats why I went private to Mr Parsons who was also recommended on here.I take it you've done a search under specialists here on forum and put your post code in etc.Only you know what your finances can stretch to so f you can see a meno consultant privately and perhaps your gp would be amenable to doing any required blood testing then that would save some money but I'd personally be wary of useing someone who's not been recommended so either wait it out or try see nick Panay or mike savvas or similar.put these names in search boxes and it'll bring up other names you can research if you read the threads.hooe that's not overwhelming you but I'm only trying to give you options.good luck xx

Lisa please don't use your much needed money on someone who is not well known and who won't/can't prescribe body identical hrt.  Have a ring round of the reputable drs and see if you can get Your gp to speak to a gynae dr and keep on louise newsons waiting list.  Better to save a bit more and go to someone who is known rather than a cheaper alternative xx

I agree with the advice that the other ladies have given you. Can you get to Coventry to see Mr Parsons (Daisydot saw him) ?

Lisa your not far from mr Parsons then it's really easy to get to google Nuffield hospital it's at leamington spa and you'll see and he doesn't insist on blood tests he doesn't insist on follow ups unless you want to ,you can email him with your history before you go.
do a check on him you'll see more info,he'll see you quickly and keep your gp informed at all times, and back you up with any problematic gps.
He was under 200 first time I went Lisa then I paid 90 this week for follow up which I requested,I'd been speaking to him online and we agreed it was now time for me to try testosterone but he can't just send a script out for that the first time you need to have a consultation.I had to build up my oestrogen first for 3 months he has fully backed me with my awkward gps he was on the nice recommendations boards for the new guidelines his credentials are spot on.

You won't regret it Lisa.hes a fabulous man like chatting to your dad he's so gentle but really on the ball.if you look at the website you can also email him it'd be a good idea to give him a brief health history like how many children easy/ bad births post natal depression any surgery Ie hysterectomy any meds you've tried etc saves you clamming up on the appointment day and saves time.good luck and keep us posted.meantume keep reading and posting it's a fabulous forum isn't it,it plays a huge part in most of our lives now thankfully.xx
