Hi there mrs Bella

Don't know anything at all about the hrt your taking, I'm on femoston conti,
But I'm so glad it's working for you, so good to hear good news, and hopefully
you'll get to feel better and better, and everything will fall back into place.

Good one mrs Bella, long may it last for you...

Thank you jillydoll!
I don't know much about all the types/forms/brands of HRT. It's all rather new to me this whole menopause thing. I tried a few others prior to the Duavive. All were a flop. I was going to give up the ghost on it but I am now glad I pushed through. It's been 5 weeks since I started and I feel loads better. Unfortunately no drug is perfect: terrible side effects and/or not effective. I am willing to compromise on this one.

Yes that is good news Mrs Bella as everyone says it does take a while to get the levels back up,you have to consider all the years we've been depleting for so it just takes time to replace then balance.im really pleased when we get positive feedback like that.xx

Oh Daisydot it's such a relief. This time last week I was fretting about what to do next as I was still having symptoms. I am sooooooo thrilled it's now kicked in. Thank you for your support and advice over last week. X

Hi Mrs Bella,

I'm really fascinated by your positive words about Duavive because I have recently been diagnosed with LCIS (Lobular Carcinoma in situ) and I've just had to come off estradiol & Utrogestan (HRT prescribed by Nick Panay at Queen Charlottes) and my breast surgeon wants to put me on Tamoxifen which I'm terrified of.  I've had some really bad reactions to various meds (I have a number of medical problems since peri-meno started), in particular anxiety, depression, insomnia, hypertension and am on drugs for all of them which give me enough side effects as it is.

May I ask if this is the first HRT you've tried and how come you were prescribed it - not a lot of people have heard of it, I know it hasn't been used in the UK for long.

Do you have any side effects from it?

Any info would be massively welcome.

Thanks in advance!

I read about it somewhere - its fairly new - licensed only a couple of years for use here in the UK. It is made up of a conjuncted oestrogen and a drug which works like progesterone but is not progesterone (bazodoxifene).  I believe I read that the guidance says it can be prescribed only if the patient has been prescribed 4 or more types of HRT before.  It is for women who are progesterone intolerant and also for women who have medical conditions that are contra-indicated for normal HRT.  I think also you must still have your uterus.

Sorry I cant tell you where I read this stuff but I know I did around July because I am fairly progesterone intolerant and I was doing a load of research about types of HRT in general.  Will try to see if I can find where I read about it and post.  My meno consultant knew about it but made some throw away comment "I must remember about that one, I tend to forget it exists!!!"

Hi jobeckett - sorry to hear about your diagnosis. If you are not allowed to have HRT as a result then Duavive would also be out of the question I imagine, as it contains oestrogen (conjugated equine oestrogens made from horse urine) albeit a lowish dose. How it differs from other HRT is that it does not contain a progestogen as Ladybt28 says, but a compound of a type known as selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) which means it acts on oestrogen receptors in the uterus to make them unresponsive to oestrogen so the lining does not thicken.

Mrs Bella hasn't been on the forum since June (good sign!) so you are unlikely to get a reply from her - although you could try sending her a pm - in case she gets e-mail notifications of these?

Duavive is for:

"Treatment of oestrogen deficiency symptoms in postmenopausal women with a uterus (with at least 12 months since the last menses) for whom treatment with progestin-containing therapy is not appropriate."  ie those with confirmed progesterone intolerance as Ladybt says.

Ladybt I imagine that guidance re 4 types of HRT is for your local NHS Trust?

It also is not on the HRT menus on this website although I'm sure I wrote in about it some while ago (but might have thought I did because I intended to - will do so again!).

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Hurdity, I was told by Nick Panay that the Duavive SERMs make oestrogen receptors in the breast unresponsive.  Unfortunately as I have a womb still I don't know whether there is much difference in the increased possibility of womb cancer by taking either Duavive or Tamoxifen - they all seem to raise the risk by a couple of %.

As I also have a cyst on my left ovary, the specialist for that is offering me ovarian removal and/or uterus removal - but I don't feel that it's the right thing to do - why chop bits out of your body unless it's necessary?  I'm still peri-menopausal but without HRT I don't bleed so I guess I'm nearing the end of peri and into full meno as I had had a period for 7 months before I started Panay's regime.  Have to say I don't think it made that much difference to my well-being in any event.

Ah I don't know - I feel so lost in the quagmire of decision making and medications.  I had my first year anniversary mammogram yesterday after being diagnosed so fingers crossed nothing has returned.  However, this is also the time I need to make these choices of either Duavive or Tamoxifen (or alternative that does not have the same side effects) or whether I just take nothing at all.  Sorry, I'm having a really down day and the black cloud wont lift at the moment :(

Thanks for your words of advice and support.

Hello ladies.

Jobeckett - I'm  that you are suffering and I think many ladies will recognise the lost feeling. I seems we are often left to work out the best HRT options for ourselves and although  researching options is a good thing it can also add to our confusion.  I hope your day has improved since you posted and that you find a regime that works for you.

Take care.

K.

Thanks Kathleen, even small words of support from this group and people like yourselves help to alleviate those feelings of doom & gloom :) It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking 'it's just me - why am I getting the raw end of the stick'? when infact everyone on this forum have their own challenges!

It's a long battle for us and a journey I never saw coming.  I just hope it finishes before i'm too old to enjoy an active life anymore  ;)

Hello ladies.  I'm really interested in this as still struggling to find an hrt that suits me after Prempak. I've been on Femoston for some months now but I'm still getting a lot of discomfort in my stomach, back and ‘under carriage' and I've decided today to give up on this particular preparation. I've got some Premarin and Utrogestan so I'm going to give this another try on a sequi regime but if this doesn't work, I will be asking my gp if he would let me try the Duavive.

Wishing you all well.

I am taking progestin as it is the only birth control pill that helps me getting ride of acne. There are also other options you can see here http://accutaneforacne.com/acne-treatments/hormonal-acne-treatment/ (http://accutaneforacne.com/acne-treatments/hormonal-acne-treatment/). There are many myths about what causes acne. Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed, but foods seem to have little effect on the development and course of acne in most people. I tried to change my diet, but this pill is really the only one that works for me.
