Title: Dexa scan and nuclear scan

Hi
Has anyone had experience of either?
I am needle phobic so feeling very concerned about the nuclear one!
Any advice welcome

The Dexa scan is totally painless and does not involve needles.
I don't know what the Nuclear one is!! dG x

Is it the same as the one used to detect bone cancer? This involves an injection of a very small amount of radioactive substance into a vein. You are then scanned to see whether all areas have taken up the radioactive substance.

Yes I believe it is I had mine in the cannula I had in hospital

Ring the Dept and discuss how the dye is administered?   I had one years ago, had they told me it was an all over X-ray I would have fretted less!  I had to drink 2 pints in 2 hours and it sounded a lot  ::) that is to pass the radioactive dye through the veins.  I had to lay very still.  I was also told to keep away from babies and elderly ...........
