Hi everyone.
Just wondering if anyone's watched anything good lately on the box?
Fed up with all the usual stuff, soaps etc...
Jd x
-
Normal tv is really short of good things these days. The Women in White started quite well last Sunday!! It depends on what you like to watch - we like the more factual historic, travel, antiques or art programmes. At the other end of the scale we love to have afternoon tea watching the game Tipping Point !!!
We are definitely moving towards having to pay for quality films and series.
We have an Amazon stick (quite cheap to buy)and belong to Amazon Prime (annual charge is around £80 and includes free deliveries on items bought from site as well a wide range of film and good series content.
We recently watched a great Amazon series ‘Marvelous Mrs Maisal' so funny, well written with great production quality.
DG x
-
We got Netflix recently. It's very reasonable a month and there is a lot of excellent tv programs on there. Well worth the money.
-
There's been 3 weeks of people taking part in similar training activities to the SOE - it's been fascinating. I couldn't have stepped up. Each week someone either gets asked to leave or if they are unable to face the next training sessions, they go. There's a lot of history in the programme as well as quite gruelling training sessions.
Tipping Point
Escape to the Country or similar buying abroad-type programmes
-
I love Escape to the Chateau on Sunday nights, there's a daily one now called Escape to the Chateau DIY, it's about Brits buying derelict mansions in France and renovating them. I love any programme where Brit's are buying property abroad. I'm sure that's where my future lies ! X
-
On Monday Beeb 1 new series called ‘The Split'..thought it was ok.
-
Hi everyone
Yeah I watched The Split.
Didn't think that much of it.
She's a great actress, but couldn't stop thinking about her in ‘the last tango in halifax'
Which I thought was brilliant. But I love Sarah Lancashire too.
Apart from that, not much on, oh except flipping football, n boxing.
Jd x
-
Yup Jd...agree, nothing really doing it for me either. Loathe football.
Missing Masterchef which I loved, and also Marcella.
I do love Homeland on Sundays, but I think it's like Marmite, you either love it or hate it and it's been going some time now.
Also like The Good fight on Thurs ...it's a spin off of The Good Wife about a firm of lawyers.
Got bored when off work and found re runs of ER....George Clooney et al....still good ;) Xx
-
Oh, started watching ‘stranger things' on Netflix.
It's ok, if you like supernatural and stuff like that.
Winona Ryder plays one of the main characters.
And also watched ‘the job lot' on Netflix as well. Good if you like silly things.
Which some days I can be very silly indeed ;D
-
Loving the Durrells at the moment.
-
Omg I absolutely love the Durrells.
How could I forget that. Told you I could be silly. ;D
I would have loved that life soooo much, doing what they've done,
Especially back then in them days.
-
I'm just waiting ... and waiting ...for the return of Poldark ... :ola: :ola: :ola: :ola: :ola: :ola: :ola: Oops, where did all those emojis come from ??
-
Yes they're filming at the moment Tiddles, in fact I'm off to walk the dogs to a certain cove today....just to see if there's any sitings ;D
-
Lucky lucky Kernow !! :D
-
I love Doc Martin.
The copper in it is very funny.
-
Isn't he just...Martin Clunes plays such a good part tho....sooo stern
-
Hi kernow
Oh yeah, I love that copper, Martin clunes is brilliant ,
I always say ‘wtf' about that copper.
I also like QI
And Mock The Week. Love that.
-
The good karma hospital x
-
Haven't watched that, although I have saw about 15mins of one episode,
And thought I'd quite like to catch up on that, but haven't got round to it yet.
I'll have to have a look.
-
Watch season one first on catch up it was excellent and season two has been pretty good so far x
-
Antiques Roadshow - like guessing the valuations
Some of the antique shows though they are contrived ;)
Homes under the Hammer - like to see the B4 and after ideas
Gone off Gardeners' World - once you've been through one growing year ;D
-
I like put your money where your mouth is and flog it and money for nothing although it astounds me how much they actually pay these makeover people to turn the dump finds into something useable, the majority of times you wouldn't give the made over stuff house room lol.
-
I love a box set with back to back episodes, so Netflix for me.
Loved ‘Gilmore Girls' over the Easter break and now watching ‘Mad Men' :)
-
Daisydot - it shows how much [money for nothing] that goes into the tip, why not put items into a Charity shop? People are SO lazy.
I agree. Some of the up-cycled things I wouldn't give room to. Often when at the tip I want to grab stuff, "I can use *that*!" ...... I bought back C.mas decorations from Mum's house (up for sale) which go back to the 1950s. Each brings back a memory. The box went into the loft 'to be sorted' .........
Also: Sarah, Danny etc. don't add their travelling costs nor time so it 'money for nothing' because they do a lot between fetching items from the tip - mending, up-cycling, going back to the thrower to show what has been done with it - all takes time and petrol! ::)
-
The City and the City.
Absolutely stonking.
-
I watched Hugh's first programme getting us to become more aware of the weight issues across the UK. He went for a medical check and is over-weight so at risk of Type2 Diabetes, apparently 1 has to measure the waist line :-\ .......... off 2 begin a new thread
-
Anyone watch ‘walking Dead'
We did, but getting a bit fed up with it now, same old stuff,
Just hope next season will be better.
Waiting for the last ‘Games Of Thrones ‘to come on, but got to wait till
Next year for that..
:(
-
I really liked z nation on Netflix bit of an acquired taste I know but if your into that it was quite comical in places,Murphy becomes the huge central character so it's worth persevering with.ill watch anything when I can't sleep in my defence 😂😂
-
Designated Survivor is excellent on Netflix.
-
I can recommend Leftovers. Something different - lots of threads to the story so a bit complicated to follow in places but absorbing for that. A good cast, great acting :-) x
-
Just watched the last two episodes of Modus which is a series on BBC 4 which we had forgotten all about and found on sky plus amongst the many other things on there we will need a week to catch up on everything we have record ;D .
Anyway really enjoyed it. The only problem is it was one of those Nordic productions with sub titles so you have to pay attention no reading or screen time while it's on.
Lanzalover x
-
I watched that when it was televised. Loved it. Really enjoy the Scandinavian series.
-
Yes we really enjoy them and let's face it theirs never anything on telly worth watching on a Saturday night.
Have you watched Salamander Blood we have it recorded as it started while we were away if so is it worth watching ? As I notice this is series 2 and we didn't watch the first one.
Thanks Lanzalover x
-
Been watching an hour long programme on Monday nights about SOE training. The last episode is on next week but Tuesday at 9.00 p.m. I would never have been any good as a spy :-\
-
Bear griylls “the island†on channel four I like that.we had a mix of “posh†group and “common†group this time ,very interesting and in the end showed despite class barriers people need people.x
-
We've recorded that to watch tonight. Think it might be the last one in the series
-
It was really good I love the way all these women go gaga over bear gryls, especially the celebrities,he's ok but doesn't float my boat I just like the programme lol.( think my boats permently docked anyway 😂😂)
-
I agree. They could do away with the little clips of him and his opinion throughout the programme for me. And it wouldn't make any difference if he was an absolute hunk because my boats docked too 😂. I always wonder why they don't get on with hunting for food and water sooner. Something I've noticed is that the animals seem to be 'discovered ' at the same point in the series each year. We still enjoy it even if that bit is fixed.
-
That's the only part I can't live with, the killing of animals like that, saying to a petrified pig lie still while I kill you is so sick.the series where they made friends with the baby pigs as pets then ate them really repulsed me,if they hadn't domesticated them it would have been more acceptable but in my eyes still sadly wrong for the sake of a tv programme.
Your right they've watched the show often enough get sorting out yam and coconuts and fishing and water in that first few days,it's a fix 😂😂
-
Me too. I can't watch or listen at that point. They should plant a few more yams around the island for them
-
Thanks for the tip Lanzalover,
I have just set up recordings for Salamander from 'Catchup'. I did catch the first series, which was very good. Don't know how I managed to miss this one ::)
-
I think that many of these 'survival' programmes are contrived. We breed pigs for food across Europe. UK imports because we can't keep up [apparently]. I couldn't keep pigs to send to slaughter, they are too intelligent ;D ........
However, had the pigs run 'wild', people would have complained about them being chased in order to become food; and pigs can move. Fast :D
-
4th series of the Bridge starts on BBC 2 on the 11th.
-
Really looking forward to that Shadyglade.
Lanzalover x
-
Watching last episode of bear grills (can't spell)
Then maybe a film of some sort.
-
Have you ever watched 5 star hotel with joey Essex and company jd it's hilarious it's a reality type programme and you just can't believe what they get up to running a 5 star hotel in Greece, you should get it on channel 4 all 4 catch up.x that posh guy from one of the Chelsea programmes is in it too try and watch it.xx
-
Catching up on Location, location, location....love Phil and Kirsty...love seeing what people end up buying
-
No daisydot never watched that, I'll have to have a look.
I was watching Richard E Grant the other day,(my god, he does it for me) ::)
It's called Richard e grants hotels, and he was in Venice,
The hotels were something else, what a place to go to if you've got the money,
alas I haven't at £9000 a night.!!!
All the film stars go there, David Bowie had stayed there with his family,
Elton Johns got a place there, it was just fantastic.
Too blingy for me, but to see it just blew your mind.
When I win the lottery I'll go, just to experience it, oh and the gondolas are £80
For 1/2 hour!! How the other half live hey.
I like a place in the sun? When they buy abroad somewhere, again if I won the
Lottery, I'd buy in Spain or Florida. OH says he wouldn't, why have the hassle when
you can stay in all the top notch hotels?
But I don't like all the blingy stuff, so I thiink we'd have a right old argument, (and I'd win) >:(
I'd be happy with a tent, don't bother me!
-
I saw a very good test for sale yesterday at a Car Boot, had I know jillydoll ;D. bugga, that should read 'tent' :D
-
Oh right,CLKD
Would suit me right to the ground, I'd love to go camping,
But OH likes the comfort of hotels.
Mind you, with my back, don't think I'd be able to get in or out.!
He'd have to transport me already in it, then leave me in it for the duration,
good holiday that'll be. Lol. ;D
(Haven't been to a good car boot for years)
Jd x
-
We haven't been to a good car boot for years either ::)
The tent was the best item there. But we left it.
MotoGP; Giro d'Italia from Israel; Tour de Yorkshire ....... or :sunny: right now, I'm sitting outdoors in the shade.
I love Location-type programmes too. I get many of my ideas for new bathrooms (10 years ago) etc. ........
-
Stayed up watching JoanRivers last night,
Then watched Micky Flanergan, anyone seen him?
My god he's so funny, had me in stitches.
-
Hi everyone,
There seems to be a new drama starting on itv on Monday,
called Innocent. Sounds as if it's going to be good.
A four parter, Monday to Thursday. That's better than waiting
a week for each episode.
I'll be watching. ;D
Jd x
-
Yes it looks good. I'll be watching too.
-
However, I want to be entertained :-\ and for me it will be too intense.
Giro d'Italia; Antiques Roadshow; next week it will be the Royal Wedding but I will be watching MotoGP ;)
-
Not the Eurovision Song Contest ........... :D
-
Definitely not!
-
I used to think it was fun. Now it's just too long and too 😋.
-
Fun for those in it apparently!
Royal Wedding anyone .........
>wave Dyan<
-
I don't really want to watch it, but then again I might be unable to resist!
-
Same here
But I suppose we won't be able to get away from it,
every time we turn the tele on it'll be on.
Although I do like William and Harry, I know they're royalty,
but because of Diana, they seem ‘more normal...ish'.
If you know what I mean.
Good luck to them anyway.
Jd x
-
Yes I do like ‘the boys'...I worry about Harry...so you g when he lost his mum.
Just a worrying niggle about his intended.
Still...what the hell do I know
-
Yes I said the same. She's American and they love our royals don't they
and I think after the novelty wears off in a few years or so she'll be off on her heels.
Too much pressure, some of them can't hack it.
Hope not though, hope they prove all the sceptics wrong.
Can't stand his dad and his misses tho, >:(
Jd x
-
Oh Jd I'm with you on all counts there, especially about the last 2...
X

Just watched this documentary on heart transplants.
Which I don't normally watch, but OH wanted to watch it.
My god, what they can do now, is just bloody amazing!
Still some sad ones, tragic ones which made me cry,
but the things they CAN do is just unbelievable.
-

I missed it but love any Medical Documentary programmes - I can't watch any animal programmes though as I find those just too sad. :)
-
'bloody' being the reality of much surgery. A good programme. I didn't think that Clare would survive, her body had too many other problems caused by the heart condition. Sad too about the Dad who had waited over 4 years on the List but then died last week after surgical intervention.
The atmosphere in Theatre seemed calm despite the intricacies of the surgery being attempted, plus any problems that could have gone wrong. All that tubing everywhere :o. That heart beating in the 'incubator' thingy ......... freaky. One has to be 'healthy' in order to be offered an organ for possible use. We are both on the NHS donor register and I wear an SOS bracelet or necklace when travelling in case: I want every bit of me used! I'm heavily into recycling ;-)
dulciana - I barely have time for 'stuff' now ;D
-
Hi salad
I'm with you on that, I just want to cry when I see animals
miss treated or ill, and it stays with me for days,
so because I'm so frustrated that I can't do anything about it I don't watch anymore.
My ignorance is best for me I'm afraid. :-*
Jd x
-
Exactly that jillydoll!
News reports of animal cruelty springing up on my media apps literally can not be unseen, even scrolling past as fast as I can :'(
Anything good on tonight? :D
-
Hi salad
I know, it's appalling isn't it, just what makes people do these things is beyond me!
I know, and probably a lot of other people, what I'd like to do with them, and it
wouldn't be pretty either! >:(
Ok, rant over..... :-\
On tonight, is the 2nd episode of that drama, ‘innocent' on itv.
Although I haven't watched it yet, we've been watching, ‘safe' a Netflix drama, which is
really good. If you like drama. :)
Jd x

Pro cycling
Pro motorbikes
-
I don't really want to watch it, but then again I might be unable to resist!
Theres no need to watch it unless you really want to, it will be on every news anyway.
I am not a fan of the royals and I think the amount that will be spent on that wedding is obscene when we have people living on the streets and eating from foodbanks. They could still have a lovely small wedding and give the rest to homeless charities and really “Make Poverty History†which I saw on a bag MM carried recently.
-
They are giving to Charity PF. Lots of charity workers have been invited to the Service rather than the Government of the day ;-).
The Royals could alter poverty in what way exactly? [maybe another thread?]. I try to do my bit by supporting the local food banks and homeless shelter with good clothing we no longer require. Like the pair of shoes that seemed OK in the shop but were not a Good Buy ::). The Royals do a lot more in the country than a) they are given credit for and b) the public are told about, for security reasons. If one reads the Telegraphy Royal pages? I am amazed at how much they pack into their day! Me, I'm up - what more does anyone want ;-)
Might resort to day-time TV today, I feel quite poorly. :-\
-
Jillydoll - I love stranger things. Can't wait for the next season.
I'm looking forward to the wedding. Can't wait to see the dress. I saw something that said what Diana's outfits cost for travel and public appearances back in the 80s and what they are spending on outfits now is a small fraction of the cost of then. I'm not sure if there was more money in the world in the 80s.
-
In the 1980s people had to be seen! and yep, that fluffy creation as Diana sailed down the aisle was huge. But fluff is out, probably. I await with interest. Jeans and a t-shirt would never surprise me ;D
-
Anyone watch posh pawn on ch 4 I really like that
-
Anyone watch posh pawn on ch 4 I really like that
Love it!
-
Don't you think dan and James are pretty nice eye candy yum and of course it's very informative in its own way
-
Used to watch it, but that bloke gets on me nerves a bit.
I like the woman though, she's got a good sense of humour.
-
Which woman,I'm too busy watching Dan and James lol
-
Think I'm on about the old series
His name was James, but can't remember her name.
She worked in the shop with him, brown hair always laughing.
That's how long it's been since I've watched it.....lol
-
I've got you now I know who you mean yes she's lovely and such a loyal worker.x
-
She was, well she moved on ..........
The Worlds Most Extraordinary Homes on now, Caroline and Piers ...... in India
-
That's a shame she probably wasn't happy travelling to the new shop she didn't seem keen when he acquired it.oh well.x
-
Yep, that's her, he opened a new shop and she wasn't keen.
Shame, they were good together.
-
Just cheated and googled lol her name was Jo xx
-
Anyone going to watch THE wedding tomorrow?
Someone rang the radio station and said they'd received their
invitation, and there place to go (stand or whatever) was in the
Corgi enclosure.
Her question was,... how do you address a royal corgi? Lol
Answers on a postcard plz.....lol ;D
Jd x
-
Yeah that's her, really liked her.
-
Nah I'm going to bingo lol prob have screens up in there too lol
-
Nope. MotoGP takes presidence ........... [sp]. apparently Charles is walking her 'up the aisle' :-\
Watching a Programme about Mont Blanc ........
-
Omg. If you are a fan of British crime drama (like Broadchurch), Innocent is totally fab. Its a 4 part drama, just finished but you can get it on ITV catch up. So good ! 😊😊😊
-
Hi tiddles,
Yeah big big fans of British dramas, or anything drama really,
I'm gonna catch that one next week, I've been watching ‘safe'
On Netflix. It's really good, mysterious, and there's 8 episodes.
Try and watch that one if you can, you'll love it....
Jd x
-
Thanks for the recommend Jd. Going to get that up now 😊😊😊 xx
-
Also, tiddles,
Two other programs to watch which we thought were excellent were,
‘Ozark', and ‘start up.'Had us wanting more every episode..
In fact we stayed up late some nights watching back to back,
we were shattered. ;D
Just waiting now for the next seasons. ::)
-
I'm watching supernatural season 13 just now, scares the pants off me sometimes but I like it lol
-
I don't like anything that will scare me ......... watching Gira d'Italia is scary enough ;D
-
I'm watching a youtube video on TV, at the moment - does that count? Whether it does or doesn't, it's a musical video (never!) that features an organist (nohhhh!!). His name is Nathan Laube and he is quite simply my favourite player. It's such a treat to hear/watch him on the big screen, when the sound is so rich and full. He's probably in about his mid-thirties and must have a very long and illustrious career ahead of him. And just to reassure all you nice and friendly ladies, it is purely his music-making that I go for! (Ladies! ::))
Dulciana
-
Yeh right Pinocchio ::) 🤥
-
;)
-
🤫😘
-
;D
That apart, he's a wonderful musician and a complete inspiration to me, as I battle to catch up with missed years before I became an organist! :)
-
I'm watching Gotham now it's not bad I like all that kind of rubbish lol.
-
Missed the new season of that...too much to catch up with it.
Watched major catch up of Marvels Agents of Shield....yeh I know ...not everyone's taste but my son loves it :)
-
Sheer escapism for me lol
-
I've been watching old episodes of The Street,
Anyone watched it, I love em.
Wish they'd make more dramas like that...
-
Just a thought , if anyone's interested,
I found out yesterday that there's a movie being made about Queen, the rock group.
Think it's out in October.
I can't wait, I love Queen, Freddie Mercury,
Wish I'd have got the chance to see them live, but I was too young,
my brothers got to see them a couple of times, bet they were brilliant.
I did however, get the chance to see Bowie live at the NEC, which was fantastic.
Jd x
-
Oh Bowie, lucky you! Apparently this particular Queen film has had a few setbacks. I don't go to the cinema or theatre any more, due to anxiety about being shut in :-\
-
Yeah CLKD, he was fantastic,
I cried on and off for days when he died, I couldn't believe it,
I was brought up listening to his songs , my 3 brothers were massive fans,
(All older than me), and it was like a bit part of my childhood had gone with him.
Really sad.
The last time I went to the flicks with OH, was to see the ‘the hobbit', all was good,
until it all went quiet and the lights went down, then I had a terrible dread feeling come over me,
like panic, totally out of the blue, how I sat there and got through it I'll never know. It really scared me.
I just stayed still and quiet....don't know if it would happen again, but the thought of ever
going again makes me wonder. I was absolutely fine before hand. Funny how these things
get you.
Jd x
Gladly though we haven't had chance to go , so it hasn't come up.
Jd x
-
Corries getting good this week with
Pat phelan.
Can't wait till he gets what he deserves....
-
I went to see Queen with Adam Lambert last December, it was a great show. They had a huge screen and showed Freddie singing along ;D I would definitely recommend seeing Adam lambert with them if you get a chance, it's not Freddie but it's really worth going.
-
Ahhh bet they were good weren't they.? Two hoots.
Might look into that.
I would have loved to have seen Freddie, but like you say, if they have
screens up showing him singing then that's the best I'm gonna get now. :'(
Just have to convince OH to come with me....
He does actually owe me one for taking me to see 20years of disco at the
Genting arena earlier this year, lol we saw, sister sledge, odyssey,
Tavares, rose Royce, honey m, and George Mccrea. Lol
They were good and brought back loads memories, but they just ent Queen. Lol ;D
Jd x. (It was 40 years of disco, I should have said, )
-
Yes pat phelin is keeping my attention at the moment too as is charity dingle in emmerdale.Your so lucky im definately going to see the Tamla Motown tribute the next time they play here I missed it last time I was gutted but I'm not gonna miss it again.Id love to see queen too.x
-
Yeah love Emmerdale.
I think charity is great, and as for Kane.....well,
in my dreams....lol
Jd x
-
I see from ads that Poldark is returning soon !!
-
I think that Adam Lambert does a Very Good Job!
Gira d'Italia - finished :-(
Isle of Man TT on ...........
-
Ewwww, OH is watching ‘question time'.
I'm off to paint my toe nails...
He can keep it. Not my thing.
Then I might go n boil my head... lol
Jd x
-
Tell you what I liked†Game of Thrones†it was so pervy too lol, maybe I should buy the box set and forget about starting the testosterone, buy a cardboard cut out of Jon Snow now there's a plan lol :jiggy:
-
If you can get them I love NCIS and NCIS LOS ANGELES AND ALSO BULL
-
Love ‘games of thrones ‘ daisydot.
