Ive been in peri since I turned 40 ( I am 49 ) but I would describe it as PMT sometimes bad PMT but PMT more or less. I had never suffered with PMT until I turned 40 you see.
Anyway, last 3 weeks following some physical health issues which I am slowly recovering from, I can be hit with these waves of anxiety or depression. I am not talking about feeling weepy at a movie or feeling emotionally raw, I am talking about a black dark blanket of depression that consumes me and I cannot hold a conversation much less enjoy TV ....I just hold tight watching the clock praying for it to pass. Last night it happened at about 6pm and ended at 8pm... it lifted and its almost like I can take a deep breath again.
Anyone else have these episodes?

Yes definitely know what you mean. I can be ok for a few days & then I might be stressed over something small & bam suddenly feel awful. But for me it can last a few days. On Sunday I had a bit of a stressful situation & so Tuesday morning had a horrible anxiety attack & then depressed off & on all day. Wednesday evening felt so irritable & then the anxiety & depression came over me. I have to tell my husband as it is so bad. Couldn't sleep properly but last Saturday went shopping in a big city & felt fine. No You described it well, it is like PMT because it isn't there all the time. It must just be fluctuations in hormones. It is very unsettling though isn't it?

I'm in a low mood this week...feel quite sad and tearful. Should be due a period next week. Each month seems to change with what symptoms I am getting before and after a period. I presume it's just the continuing hormones going haywire.

Hello roseenglish and welcome to the forum.
I'm another one who has waves of moods. They are accompanied by physical sensations and I've always blamed the menopause. When I mentioned them to my GP he confirmed that they are likely to be hormonal. If they didn't last so long I'd liken them to contractions!
Sorry I can't be of more help but you are not alone on this rollercoaster.
Wishing you well.
