Title: Periods and Hrt
Post by: jenjog on April 11, 2018, 10:43:44 AM
Hi Everyone
I'm in peri and on low dose Elleste duet. Prior to taking this my monthly cycle was a bit all over the place and varied between light and very heavy. I've been on hrt for 3 months and it gives me a regular period but very very heavy. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a Gp appointment next week so will mention it to him, it's just nice to hear from other Women.

Hi and welcome to MM

Sometimes the bleeds can be heavy while still in early stages of peri meno - your own hormones are still pumping out so the womb lining builds up a bit more and results in heavier bleeds.  AS your own hormones decline and the HRT takes control, then the bleeds may well get lighter. I'd Geri things a good 3 more months before trying anything different.  If you want a virtually non bleed HRT option then you could have a Mirena fitted and use oestrogen as gel or patch alongside.  DG x
