Hi ladies I'm wondering if I'm getting migraines.I am recovering from an injury but I'm now getting really throbbing headache at one side which goes right behind the ear, very light sensitive in that eye like a pointy knife pain in it in any bright light feel sickly getting them lasting for what seems like days.is this sounding like migraines in your experience.ty xx

Hi.
I got these upon menopause. They got so bad was vomiting for hours. I find that 2 ibuprofen at the onset stopped them developing to head explosion.
-
Hi loubylou thank you for replying,my heads throbbing it's difficult to know if it's migraine as head injuries complicate everything but I'm having an Mra scan tomorrow so I wonder if migraines would show on a scan,I'd actually be relieved if it was migraines bad as that sounds I know.ty x

It sounds like a migraine having pain in the eye. That's how mine start. Fingers crossed for you that is all they are. Let us know how you get on

Ty LL I've got dxa scan this morn at long last then tonight the brain scan so as I said I'll be glad when fridays over with it's so scary.could possibly be stress that's causing the headaches/migraines if that's what they are.never a dull moment eh? 😁
-
I got this for a long time especially the eye pain and behind the ear and always thought it was sinus related until I read on here about migraines, so now I do notice a pattern that is hormone related as to when it occurs.
I never thought of migraine as I have friends who have such bad migraines with arm numbness and speech problems but I now realise that not all migraines have to be that severe.

Thinking of you Daisydot. It's scary but you are putting your health first and that's the best thing. Hope all is well.x
-
Daisydot, that does sound like migraines. They vary a lot and some are with auras, some are one sided headaches or they can be aura without headache like mine.
I hope the scan went OK, please give us an update when you can.

Thanks ladies really appreciate the kind words.god it's been such a long day I'm just in the door 9-40pm after the brain scan it was horrible they forgot to put the music on and no one interacted at all, even just to say we are half way there or 5 mins left would have helped,it was so long I thought my heart was gonna burst out my chest.they said two weeks now for the result that seems ages so I know it's bad but I'm so hoping your right and it is migraines and not what eye consultant thinks so meantime I'm just going to forget about it and enjoy life.the thing I is he never even mentioned migraines it's only because I'd been reading stuff the ladies on here had written about suffering migraines that I thought that sounds like some of the stuff I get and that's why I was asking for more info.its just a worry because of the head injury so fingers crossed.ty again xx

Hi there,
Try not to worry. You are doing the right thing getting this investigated. It does sound like menopausal migraine. I had it so badly it nearly destroyed my life and I never got any help from my doctors. I was so bad that I lost lots of weight due to the vomiting and headaches that plagued me every month. They just shrugged their shoulders and said that I was, ‘unfortunate.' At full menopause it just stopped like someone switching off a light and I cannot remember when I last had a migraine. I suspect it was due to falling oestrogen levels but who knows? All I know is that I am fine now that I am in full menopause.
;) Hang in there and don't be afraid to use the more powerful Trypsin type medications if the pain gets unbearable.

Thank you Holly and welcome to the forum xx

Hello Daisydot,
I don't think the brain scan will be helpful regarding migraine diagnosis. If it comes clear, and I hope and think it will, you'll probably have to address this pharmacologically by testing migraine medications. If they work then it's probably migraine.
How are you managing the pain? Sorry if you had said it before... what sort of head injury are you talking about?

Hi Conolly I've been having trouble with my eye since the head injury,I have throbbing pain to the side where the injury occurred hence the need for scan.Ive just been using meditation to try and cope with the pain until the scan results come back as I suffer from vertigo and I really don't want to fiddle about with meds, another thing I get is when I close my eyes it's like bands of colour under the eyelids is the only way I know to describe it.as if eyelids are trapping colours sounds bizzare doesn't it but I've never suffered from headaches before so anyway I guess I'll know soon enough what's goin* on when scan is back,he has said he'll call me.x

Daisydot. When I reached menopause my migraines (pain in head) changed to 'cluster headaches' (pain in one or other of eyes). May be worth mentioning at doctor visit.

That's what I was originally referred to consultant for bramble I had eye infection then light sensitivity and pain and headaches,it got really bad in left eye which also happened to be area I had head injury in so referred for brain scan he said he suspected what it was but never mentioned migraines so I'm just bouncing ideas at the moment till he calls me with results,it certainly seems like migraines or cluster headaches I seem to clear then wallop one after the other headaches, never had this before.gonna be a long two weeks lol.ty xx
-
Hi sparkle thanks so much for your advice.Consultant said vision was good eye was very healthy back and front no sign of anything untoward with eyes so I'm hoping once this scan comes back he'll say nothing bad it's quite nerve wracking waiting I'm just playing guessing games I suppose.ill post as soon as I know but thank you everyone for trying to help and reassure me it means a lot your so kind xx

Hi ladies
It is very difficult to,pinpoint what is giving you the head pain and whether it's your injury related until the exports get back to you with the results will you know I guess but if you have a migraine you would know it it's not like a normal headache where you take paracetamol and it goes I have to take Zolmitriptan to ease my migraine but then it takes 2 hours before I get relief yes it is someotimes like a knife in my head one side and feel sick and sometimes I am . A migraine is a restriction of blood vessels in the brain I have had migraines for over 30years and have had MRI scans and seen neurologist and he seems to think I will grow out of them well I'm still waiting but I am now on a preventative that I think is actually working and believe me I have tried a few which haven't worked. But I do symphasize with all migraine sufferers and hope daisydots results come back all clear but hope you can get some relief also from the horrible headaches that really do disrupt your day to day life

Hi. I've been a migraine sufferer for over 30 years and have been through all the tests you are having. I seem to be growing out of them as I get older, or maybe I'm just able to cope with them better and know how to treat them properly now. Paracetamol or ibuprofen doesn't always work for me and I've had all the 'triptons' from the doctors and after a week in hospital where they were concerned I'd had a brain hemorrhage as they were so severe the specialist migraine consultant advised me to take 3 dispersible aspirin. I've never looked back since then. If the normal painkillers don't work I give aspirin a go and most of the time it works. Headache/migraine makes the brain swell and the veins/arteries contract so the aspirin thins the blood and helps it get though the contracted blood vessels. I've found dispersible aspirin difficult to find so I have it prescribed when I need it and even though I'm asthmatic I'm still allowed it. Maybe speak to your doctor about it but it is recommended by the Migraine Association as a successful treatment. Hope this helps.

Hi SadieLouise thank you for that advice I've got a headache right now so I've taken an aspirin to see if any improvement as paracetamol don't do a thing.fingers crossed and thank you again.xx
-
Hi just a quickie to say my head has eased off pretty quickly since taking that aspirin and it was very low dose, not completely gone but not as fierce.ill try this for the next couple of days and update how it's doing thanks so much again xx

That's great Daisydot! Remember they tell me 3 aspirins at once and disolvable to you have more to play with x
