Hello
I'm now 4 days post hysterectomy and I've notice that the discharge from my vagina smells erm... nasty. Is this normal?
-
Hi Louise - no it's not normal and is one of the signs of infection and you may need antibiotics. What type of hysterectomy did you have? Also, have you had a look at the Hysterectomy UK site? https://www.hysterectomy-association.org.uk/ There is a really helpful forum on there. I found them a great help after my hysterectomy.
I hope you are resting! :)

You need to get medical advice as it could be an infection.
Were you given a number to ring if you had problems when you were discharged?
-
I had an infection right at the top of the vagina (I had a vaginal hysterectomy) and antibiotics soon sorted it out. The smell was horrible.

I had a total laparoscopic and vaginial hysterectomy and ovaries and tubes taken out... the whole lot basically.
Had a temp yesterday but I feel better today, except the smell which is gross.

If you have had a fever and the bad smell you must get this sorted out as soon as possible. Don't leave it as it can develop into a really nasty infection.
