Title: I was Cinderella but I’ve just realised I was the evil queen in disguise!
Post by: Debs1974 on February 01, 2018, 10:02:12 PM
So I've been diagnosed peri menopausal and put on low dose patches. I've had a couple of ok days in the 2.5 weeks I've been slapping these on my body but I've had an absolute meltdown today. I'm more aggressive, I'm more tearful, I've got acne back (yippee to that helping my confidence), my hip and leg bone aches are back. I'm pissed off with good friends for not understanding what I'm going through, I'm still having night sweats and I'm just angry.....

I've scheduled a telephone appointment with my doctor and I'm going to ask for a higher dose patch.

Advice please, I'm currently on Evorel Sequi, I started my first progesterone section of the patches today and I've been so irritated and tearful. There is stuff going on in my personal life but the fact I can't control my emotions is making me more angry.

I'm 43, I have history of hormone problems in my female line (all un-diagnosed) I have all my female parts. I have never had children. I've always been thin and I've had Bile Salt Malabsorption since I hit puberty at 17.

If you can advise me for my telephone conversation with my doctor on Tuesday please do. I'm fed up with feeling like an alien in my own body.

Cheers

Evening Debs  :)

It certainly sounds like you're going through a hormonal crisis at the moment - sorry to hear this.
I'm an Oestrogen only user so have no experience to share with you poor ladies who have to juggle Progesterone in the HRT mix too - give it a day or two and someone more helpful should pop along to your thread.

In the meantime, you're certainly not alone and getting the correct dose can take a while so hang in there  :foryou:

Morning Debs

:welcomemm:  It is recommended that you try HRT for 3 months as a lot of symptoms settle during this period.
However there were a couple that I only took for 1 month as they did nothing for me and my GP was happy for me to try a different one in fact before we hit on the right one she only prescribed one months supply each time.

It could be that Norethisterone the prog part of this HRT doesn't suit you it didn't suit me.

If you want to use patches the other one is Femseven sequi this one contains a different prog but the downside of these patches is they are rather large.

I am post menopausal but use HRT on a cycle as I cann't take prog on a continuous basis.

I have eventually settled on a separate oestrogen and progesterone if you look under the treatments bar at the top of the page this will give you all the different options. There are a lot peri menopause ladies who get on very well with Femoston as this contains the kindest prog but I don't know how you feel about tablets.

Hope you find something that helps do let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome Debs1974
I just want to add; you are using patches and these are medium dose - so quite a big hit of hormones for the peri meno stage. It's usually better to start on a low dose and only increase if needed.
Femoston 1/10 has a kinder progesterone that may suit you better. Perhaps ask for this - they are pills but Femoston suits many women very well.

Do patches only come in higher doses than oral versions of HRT then? Evorel 25 for instance is a pretty low dose, and Debs hasn't specified what dose she's  on.

racjen - The combined HRT patches only come in medium dose. Debs is on Evorel Sequi which is a medium dose combined HRT. These combined patches also have the stronger progesterones that can cause more side effects like PMT.
Oestrogen only patches can come in lower doses but, unless a GP is clued up on prescribing an oestrogen only patch with the right amount of separate progesterone, they are unlikely to prescribe this tailored type of HRT regime - they will always go for the usual options in their little drug book. Oh Ok, I didn't realise that - I'm on the separate sort.

Hi! I guess that maybe you have to give more time to yourself for stabilizing your hormones.
I was in a complete despair, I couldn't recognize myself anymore. I was in tears all the time and I lost the contact with reality.
It's the progesterone part of hrt that caused it. I begin to get used to I it and to feel more comfortable day to day. Don't panic and try not to think too much about! 🌹

I've just switched from everol conti to Mirena cool and oestrogel. I was so irritable and had flashes of real anger on them due to the norethisterone progesterone. I already feel a lot calmer on the Mirena.
Would definitely recommend the femoston though as already said. The only reason I couldn't keep on taking it was due to being on the conti version. Side effects not good for me. The sequi may be a lot nicer. Worth a try. Good luck x

Thanks for advice everyone, have conversation scheduled this morning so will let you know what my doctor suggests. I do realised it's early days in finding a balance - I just hate being so anti social!

So I spoke to my lovely doctor who agreed to prescribe Femseven patches for different progesterone as you all suggested, however cut to a week later! Femseven is no longer being manufactured with waiting lists all over my county, I had to admit defeat to get it and another doctor in my practise called me up and prescribed Femoston tablets (for the pleasure of which I am charged £17.20 for each 3 month pack (as I'm being charged for each hormone separately) so the patches are cheaper. Even my pharmacist has recommended I pay for a free prescription card as I'm already on other medications each month.

Can anyone tell me anything about these tablets or give me any advice. My patches this cycle end on Sun (should change to new patch) but the tablets begin on a Monday so was thinking of waiting till then.

I was back at the Breast clinic this week as my hormones have given me massive cysts and a “Breast mouse” begnin tumour in my armpit. How is it some women sail through this crap with nothing and I'm on my 5th trip to the breast clinic for cyst drainage and biopsy's?

I was told that I'd be at a higher risk of DVT with tablets is this something I should be worried about? Is this a good thing that I've been switched to tablets please all you tab taking ladies out there that still have their lady parts?

Hi Debs1974

Femoston is a good HRT to try - it has the kinder progesterone so suits many women very well.  Is it the Femoston 1/10 or 2/10? If you are using the 1/10 sequential then this is a good dose to start with.
I believe there is a very slight increased risk of a DVT with HRT in pill form but you are still young, the risks of any HRT are generally very small, so unless you have a previous history of DVT, I really wouldn't worry.
Do remember that HRT protects your heart and bones for the long term - also helps to prevent urogenital atrophy and even offers some protection against bowel cancer!!!!!  Look at the benefits not the risks.
It's so much easier to pop a pill each day and not have to worry about patches dropping off etc.
Take the Femoston, don't look for problems and enjoy getting our life back.  DG x

Hi! I take pills as hrt and I'm ok with it.
It's easier than patches for me and there no risks for DVT at young ages except if you have a history.
I will try to change my hrt to femoston cause dydrogesterone in femoston is a safer one.
Hope you feel better soon and let us know how you are going! 🌹

Thanks Dancing Girl, good to hear. It's the 1/10 I'm on so I'm about to pop my first pill this morning. Fingers crossed! X
