Title: Sleep and menopause - useful article but its from 2005 so HRT refs out of date
Post by: KatyB on January 21, 2018, 08:50:50 AM
Dear all, I came across this article and thought it might be useful to those suffering a) hot flushes, b) sleep disturbances, c) depression, d) restless legs, e) snoring, f) anxiety, g) ME....so that would cover most of us I thought! It is interesting because it actually describes effects of oestrogen and progesterone (natural or via HRT) on sleep, also testosterone and anti-depressants, and it is the sleep disorders specialist's view on menopause. It comes with a warning though, the article is from 2005, so before the realisation of the inadequacies of the WHI assessment of HRT, so do not consider the HRT warnings about risk balance up to date....so with that caveat, here it is http://jcsm.aasm.org/articles/010312.pdf

That is a really interesting article.  Wish GPs and other health professionals were more aware of things like this.  Thanks for posting.
