Hi
I am new to this forum and have joined because I am a little concerned. My last period was around Feb last year (I'm 51) so thought that I had now started the menopause. However at the weekend I started a period. I have been very sore and itchy and have all the usual problems like stomach cramps and back ache. I have also felt nauseas but this has passed now.
Has anybody got any experience of this and offer any advise? I was thinking of booking a doctors appointment which I can do but I know I will have at least a three week wait.
Thank you
Jayne

You have to go for a year without a period to be classed as having gone through menopause. As you have gone 11 months it looks like you will have to start counting again.
Have you got menopausal symptoms ?

My periods waxed and waned for a couple of years. I would go without for months, then another would appear ::). It was 5 years after my last bleed B4 I stopped carrying protection ;).
Do speak to your Practice Nurse about treatment for vaginal atrophy, one thing that mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms. Make sure that you have a good lubricant available and use regularly.

Hi and welcome to MM Jaynie66
The peri stage can result in long gaps between periods - it sounds as though your ovaries are having a final few gasps. It might be worth popping to the GP for reassurance.
If your ‘lady bits' are itchy and sore then some local oestrogen( Vagifem) might be a good idea (ask GP for this) and also some vaginal moisturiser used daily can help to keep the flora balance good and prevent some of the urogenital problems - most of us use SYLK or the YES products. Multi Gyn Actigel is great to treat BV ( itchy and sore) and used a couple of times a week can also help to prevent infections taking hold.
If you get problematic bleeding (so very heavy), then this will need investigating. DG x

Hi Dottie.
The short answer is I don't know if I have symptoms as I don't know what to expect. I have hot periods sometimes but I don't get night sweats. I get a bit forgetful and irritable but clearly this could just be me! Hence why I have come here for some advice

Thank you for all your help and advice. I will browse through the forums and get some more information. Just felt really crap all day, had hoped that I wouldn't get this again! Never mind 🤗

Hi Jaynie - this happened to me and is quite common. I got to almost ten months without a period and then started quite regular ones again. It was really annoying as I thought I wouldn't see another period. I was 52 then. I had periods for another year and then started HRT as my symptoms had become difficult to manage.
As Dancinggirl suggested it may be a good idea just to get checked out if only to make sure that the "itchy bits" isn't an infection. You may need some topical oestrogen (low dose cream or pessaries) to keep your vagina and urinary tract nice and healthy.
