Title: Mirena Coil/Period
Post by: elsie001 on December 22, 2017, 10:29:22 AM
I had the mirena coil fitted just over 2 years ago to help ease heavy periods, which stopped completely after a few months.

However, last Monday my periods started again (at least that explains the week-long sore nipples!). Does this mean the progesterone in the coil isn't sufficient any more?

I'm 51. Only other menopause symptom at the moment is VA which I treat with Vagifem pessaries twice weekly.

Get the Mirena checked - it may have moved or fallen out??? If you haven't bled for 2 years, then it would be a bit unusual to get bleeding now, so a scan might be a good idea. Vagifem is far too low a dose to cause a period life bleed.  DG x

Thanks Dancinggirl - I'll make an appointment for a coil check. Yes I agree about the Vagifem.  One good thing about getting this period is that my VA has improved - haven't had any symptoms at all recently!
